Chapter 1492

Roxanne was exhausted. For the past couple of nights, she had fallen asleep almost instantly upon hitting her pillow. That night, however, sleep eluded her. Instead of drowsiness, Lucian's intense gaze filled her thoughts. Knowing he was still downstairs made her nervous. She only breathed a sigh of relief when she heard the downstairs door close. Looking out the window, she watched him get into his car, which remained stationary for a moment before slowly departing. Only after his car disappeared did she return to bed and immediately doze off.

She woke feeling more energized, whether due to Lucian's massage or not, she couldn't say. It being Sunday, she stayed home with the children instead of going to the research institute, enjoying some much-needed time off.

Early the following morning, she sent the children to school and hurried to the institute. The faster she developed the new drug, the sooner she could be with her children.

Meanwhile, Ophelia received a furious call from Aubree. "What's wrong with you? Days have passed, and you haven't acted!" Aubree raged, frustrated by her failure to find the man or see Roxanne punished.

"There's nothing I can do," Ophelia replied, equally helpless. "That woman's been staying home, and I can't access their residential area. I even staked out the research institute all day yesterday, but I didn't see her."

"She has to be working today!" Aubree snapped. "If I don't hear good news from you today, you're fired!"

"Don't worry, I'll do it today!" Ophelia hastily assured her.

Aubree immediately hung up. Ophelia, wasting no time, grabbed her coat and left.

She drove to Roxanne's research institute and, after a lengthy search, located Roxanne's car. Just as she was about to act, she remembered the surveillance cameras. Hesitantly, she paused and reconsidered.

After a moment, Ophelia changed her plan, heading towards the kindergarten. It being Monday, the children would undoubtedly be there, requiring Roxanne to pick them up. The crowded entrance during pick-up time would provide the perfect cover.

Unbeknownst to Ophelia, several people observed her, whispering amongst themselves before discreetly following.

Roxanne, completely engrossed in her research, remained oblivious to the events unfolding outside.

In the evening, Linda cautiously approached Roxanne in the laboratory. "Dr. Jarvis, are you still busy? Should I pick up the children?" This had become routine given Roxanne's dedication to her work.

Roxanne glanced at the clock, realizing it was almost dismissal time. "It's alright. I'm just finishing up."

After completing her work, she changed and went to collect her children. The events of the past few days had highlighted the children's need for her companionship, making her even more eager to spend time with them.
