Chapter 1509
โSo? Have you devised a plan, Aubree?โ Friedaโs anxiety mounted with each passing moment.
Aubreeโs jaw tightened as a thought struck her. โHave you investigated the man from that night?โ
Friedaโs eyes widened. โYouโre going to ask him for help? Didnโt you say heโs in league with Roxanne? What if he betrays you?โ
Determination hardened Aubreeโs gaze. โItโs the only way! The man exuded an unusual aura; Iโm sure heโs powerful.โ
โButโฆ why would someone like him work for Roxanne?โ Friedaโs confusion was evident.
โDid you investigate or not?โ Aubree snapped, her patience fraying.
Frieda nodded hesitantly. โI checked the surveillance footage and located his residence.โ
โTake me there!โ Aubree declared.
Seeing Aubreeโs resolve, Frieda complied. They hailed a taxi and provided the driver with the address. The motel receded in the distance.
The taxi soon stopped before a mansion.
โThis is it, but Iโm not sure if he usually stays here,โ Frieda said.
Aubree, having no time for deliberation, flung open the car door and exited. The mansion was brightly lit, clearly occupied. Relief washed over her, but it was fleeting. The grim purpose of her visit returned, hardening her expression.
Frieda rang the doorbell. An intercom crackled to life. โWho is it?โ
Frieda glanced at Aubree.
โIโm looking for the owner. Tell him a woman with the surname Pearson is here to speak with him. Heโll know who I am,โ Aubree replied coolly.
A grunt acknowledged her request. After a brief silence, the voice instructed, โThe door is open. Come in.โ
A click announced the door's opening. Aubree entered, her face impassive. She saw the man lounging on a couch.
โMs. Pearson, why the late-night visit? Don't tell me you can't forget that night,โ the man said flippantly, ignoring Friedaโs presence. He rose and approached Aubree.
โWhat are you talking about?โ Hatred blazed in Aubreeโs eyes. โHow dare you mention that night? If it werenโt forโugh! I want to tear you apart for what youโve done!โ
Shawn raised an amused eyebrow. โIf it werenโt for what? If Iโm not mistaken, thatโs the reason for your visit, Ms. Pearson. Am I right?โ
Aubree glared. โI need your help to leave the country!โ
Shawn scoffed. โSeeking my assistance, are we? Ms. Pearson, your past authority doesn't excuse this manner of requesting help.โ His gaze swept over Frieda. โThe Farwell and Pearson families have called off the engagement, yet Ms. Queen remains friends with Ms. Pearson. How interesting.โ
Frieda met his gaze. A vivid memory surfaced: years ago, Jonathan had brought her to a national business conference where sheโd met this man. Though not as renowned as Lucian, he possessed considerable influence and could easily assist Aubree.
