Chapter 1518
The three children remained at the Farwell residence for several days. Lucian used this as an opportunity to video call Roxanne nightly, updating her on the children and expressing his concern for her well-being. The children behaved impeccably during each call.
By the weekend, four days had passed since the children last saw Roxanne, and their longing resulted in tantrums. Lucian conceived a plan.
It was noon. Catalina was preparing lunch when she noticed Lucian and the children readying themselves to leave. "Mr. Farwell," she said, "Are you going to see Mrs. Farwell? Why not wait for me to finish lunch; you could bring some to her. Is she very busy these days? Please remind her not to overwork herself."
Before Lucian could respond, the children dashed into the kitchen. "Ms. Catalina, we'll help you!" they exclaimed, each grabbing a stool to stand beside her.
A smile touched Catalina's lips at the sight of the three adorable children. "Okay," she replied, "I'll teach you."
The four of them began preparing lunch. Lucian watched for a while, his heart quickening. He joined them in the kitchen.
"Mr. Farwell?" Catalina exclaimed, surprised.
However, she quickly grasped his intention and, smiling, guided them through the process. The lunch preparation was chaotic, but with Catalina's assistance, the final result was acceptable. She helped them pack the food and watched, beaming, as they departed with their lunchboxes.
It was lunchtime when the four arrived at the research institute. The children gazed at Lucian with wide eyes as he called Roxanne. Shortly afterward, she appeared at the institute's entrance and approached them.
"Why did you change cars?" Roxanne asked casually upon entering the spacious vehicle.
At her question, the children mysteriously produced a bag. Lucian pressed a button, and a divider lowered between the front and back seats. Roxanne was puzzled.
"Tadah! Mommy, we made you lunch!" Benny exclaimed, struggling to place the bag on the divider, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Roxanne was astonished. She turned to Lucian, recalling his dishwashing skills but finding it hard to imagine him cooking. His previous cake-baking attempt had been quite clumsy.
Sensing her gaze, Lucian calmly looked out the window. Roxanne found this amusing, yet eager to see their culinary efforts, she opened the bag and examined the lunchboxes.
Lucian turned, a flash of disgust crossing his face. "Forget it," he declared. "I should take you all to a restaurant instead."
He'd always believed himself capable of anything, but faced with the food, he admitted his complete lack of cooking talent. He started to drive away.
However, a surprised smile spread across Roxanne's face. "You guys made all this? You're awesome!"
Lucian halted his actions, narrowing his eyes. "You don't need to force yourself," he said. "These dishes don't look appetizing. You can try my cooking again after I've improved. It's better if you don't eat this. You're tired; we should get something nice."
