Chapter 1540: Loyal
Since he would be joining her to meet Jack the next day, Lucian didn't ask many questions. They went to bed in each other's arms. Roxanne initially felt it slightly inappropriate, but considered it insignificant compared to the previous night. She lay obediently in his arms and quickly fell asleep.
The next morning, they rose early, and Lucian drove her to the research institute. While waiting for Jack, they reviewed the contract terms. With Lucian's guidance, Roxanne felt more confident.
Jack arrived around nine o'clock. His expression darkened upon seeing Roxanne on a small couch, Lucian on a larger one beside her, appearing relaxed and engaged in conversation. Though seated separately, their interaction seemed intimate.
"Hello, Mr. Damaris," Roxanne greeted him with a smile. Lucian's presence eased her, allowing a more natural interaction with Jack.
After a moment, Jack managed a smile before turning to Lucian. "What a coincidence, Mr. Farwell. I wasn't aware you'd be here. Ms. Jarvis and I have business to discuss. If possible, could you perhapsโ"
Jack attempted a polite request for Lucian to leave, but Lucian cut him off with a warning look. "No, it's not possible. I don't think there's anything between you and Roxanne that I shouldn't know."
Jack's expression tightened. "It's regarding a partnership between Damaris Group and this institute."
"Then there's no need for me to leave. Farwell Group isn't involved in medicine; knowing the details presents no conflict of interest. Besides, you should trust Roxanne's integrity," Lucian replied casually.
Jack's face fell. "Will you be contributing to this conversation, then?"
Lucian raised an eyebrow, glancing at Roxanne.
Roxanne sighed, noticing the tension, but wouldn't side with Jack. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you beforehand. I'm not knowledgeable in business, so Mr. Farwell is acting as my consultant."
She looked to Lucian for approval; he nodded.
Jack chuckled sarcastically. "You're willing to be Ms. Jarvis's consultant? Now I see why she's so loyal to you, Mr. Farwell!"
"It's an honor to be Roxanne's consultant," Lucian replied, his sincerity unclear.
To prevent a quarrel, Roxanne changed the subject. "Let's get down to business. We'll be late for lunch otherwise."
Jack nodded, sitting opposite her. Arms crossed, he said, "Since you wanted to see me urgently, I assume Mr. Farwell has provided insight. Speak your mind."
