Chapter 1553: Did Daddy Take Care of You?

Roxanne, having initially been annoyed by the movie, now felt she’d overreacted. “No, it’s just my occupational disease acting up. The movie’s plot was well-defined; no need to dwell on minor details.”

Lucian remained apologetic. “I thought you’d like that genre. I’ll choose something different next time.”

A mischievous thought struck Roxanne. “Then let’s watch something about trade wars next time. I look forward to Mr. Farwell giving me a lesson.”

Lucian’s eyes darkened, pleased by her playful jab. “Sure. I’ll accompany you as long as you like.”

Roxanne felt a pang of guilt. “Forget it. Once was enough. Let’s choose something unrelated to work next time…”

Lucian glanced at her through the rearview mirror. Their eyes met, and they shared a smile.

They arrived at the manor at nine o'clock, entering with several shopping bags. The three children, home since Cayden had brought them back earlier, eagerly awaited their gifts. The moment Lucian and Roxanne entered, the children swarmed them.

“Daddy! Mommy!”

Lucian carried most of the bags, while Roxanne, hands empty, knelt and affectionately rubbed their heads. “Have you all been good? Did you listen to Ms. Catalina?”

“Yes! We even helped her prepare meals!” they chorused.

Roxanne beamed. “Mommy, where are our presents?” Benny asked expectantly. Roxanne gestured towards Lucian.

He pinched Benny’s cheek and indicated the couch. “They’re there. Open them yourselves.”

Cheers erupted as the children scrambled to the couch, quickly creating a delightful mess. Roxanne joined in, helping them sort through their gifts.

“Yay! It’s the latest Apple!” Benny exclaimed, showing Archie his new device. Archie, equally thrilled with his (a different color), thanked them both. “Thank you, Daddy and Mommy!”

Lucian nodded. “I’m glad you like them.”

“Wow! So many dresses! I love them!” Estella chirped.

Lucian, raising an eyebrow, said, “Mommy picked them for you.”

Estella hugged Roxanne and kissed her cheek. “Thank you, Mommy! I love Mommy most!”

Roxanne’s heart melted. “I love you too, Essie.”

“Mommy, did Daddy take good care of you today?” Estella asked seriously, her tone suggesting a potential reprimand for Lucian.

Roxanne and Lucian exchanged glances. Amusement flickered in Lucian’s eyes. He saw Estella’s protective stance towards Roxanne and, choosing diplomacy, simply said, “He has been taking great care of me.”

Roxanne, caught between amusement and exasperation at this father-daughter dynamic, appeased Estella while giving Lucian a reproving look.
