Chapter 1555: Do Not Take Them to Heart

โ€œWhy did you come out?โ€

Seeing Lucian follow her, Sonya assumed he wanted to apologize. After all, it was absurd for him to dismiss her, his own mother. However, Lucian simply took her bag, placed it in the car, and then regarded her with displeasure.

โ€œIโ€™ve told you Roxanne is the wife I want. I hope youโ€™ll respect her, if only for my sake. I believe she also desires family harmony.โ€

His censorious tone enraged Sonya. Her face flushed crimson. โ€œRespect her? Who will respect me? My son threw me out at night because of her, and I still have to pander to her?โ€

Lucian frowned. โ€œYouโ€™ve lived perfectly well at the Farwell main residence. You chose to come to the manor and interfere. I merely suggested you return to the main residence; you chose this hour.โ€

He was genuinely surprised sheโ€™d left in the middle of the night, much less used it as an excuse to criticize Roxanne.

โ€œHow can you speak to me like this because of that woman?โ€ Disbelief shone in Sonyaโ€™s eyes.

Lucianโ€™s expression darkened. โ€œShe has a name. Do not refer to her that way. The same goes for the boys.โ€

Sonya stared, a storm of emotions in her eyes. Heโ€™d never treated her this way, not even when sheโ€™d forced the Aubree marriage. Now, with Roxanneโ€™s return, he was a different personโ€”talking back, even admonishing her! And Essie, once so attached to her, now clung to Roxanne. Sonya believed Roxanne had bewitched them both.

This thought fueled her anger. Remembering Roxanneโ€™s designer clothes, all purchased with Farwell family funds, only intensified her distress and vexation.

โ€œYou should leave, since youโ€™ve decided to go tonight. Itโ€™s late.โ€

Lucian softened his tone, opening the car door. Sonya glared but remained silent. Fine, I'll endure this today. But I'll never let that woman marry into the Farwell family easily!

โ€œDrive safe,โ€ Lucian told the driver.

The driver murmured his assent and drove away. Lucian watched until the car disappeared before returning to the mansion.

Roxanne sat in the living room with the children while Catalina recounted the dayโ€™s events. Catalina had been unaware of Sonyaโ€™s plans. Upon Sonyaโ€™s return, sheโ€™d demanded to go back to the main residence and ordered Catalina to pack her bags. Catalina, naturally, obeyed, enduring Sonyaโ€™s veiled insults.

โ€œMrs. Farwell has left?โ€ Roxanne asked upon seeing Lucian.

Lucian subtly dismissed Catalina with a wave. She understood and left.

โ€œI told my mother to go back. She hesitated for two days, so I assumed she didnโ€™t want to. I never expected her to leave at this hour. Iโ€™m sorry. Donโ€™t take her words to heart. She was just upset I wouldnโ€™t let her stay.โ€

He looked apologetic. Roxanne, however, understood Sonya's remarks perfectly.

She forced a smile. โ€œI know. I just hope sheโ€™s not angry with me.โ€
