Chapter 1562: A Changed Man

It didn't take long for Jack to send Roxanne the address of their meeting place. She glanced at the message and noticed it was the cafรฉ where they had previously argued. He was likely trying to humiliate her.

In the past, Roxanne would have refused to meet. However, desperate, she kept the appointment.

When she arrived, Jack sat casually, fiddling with an aroma lamp. He didn't react to her entrance. Roxanne lowered her eyes and greeted him, "Mr. Damaris."

Seeming to notice her then, he smiled politely. "Ms. Jarvis, you're here. I didn't see you. Please, have a seat."

Roxanne nodded and sat beside him, observing him continue to manipulate the aroma lamp. Sensing her gaze, he explained softly, "This fragrance has a calming effect. To avoid another argument, I'm trying to burn it quickly."

His confident tone suggested the lamp held genuine power. Roxanne pursed her lips, smiling. "If we share the same goal, Mr. Damaris, we won't quarrel."

Jack finally stopped fiddling with the lamp. Turning to Roxanne, he asked, "Oh? And what is your goal, Ms. Jarvis?"

Roxanne answered seriously, "The medicine's development prioritizes patient benefit and aims to reduce their burden."

Jack chuckled, as if she'd made a joke. "Then why are you so concerned with profit share? Isn't getting the medicine on the market enough?"

Expecting a rebuttal, he was surprised when Roxanne simply nodded. "That's what I initially thought. As long as the medicine is approved, I don't mind if you take all the profits."

Jack frowned, a flicker of surprise crossing his face.

Roxanne continued, "However, thanks to you, I realized that as head of the research institute, I'm responsible not only for the patients, but also for the employees. You know how arduous this development process has been. Without profit, the employees will be disappointed, and the institute will struggle to retain them."

This echoed Jack's warning during their last meal, and Lucian's consistent teachings. She had to protect both patients and employees.

Hearing her explanation, Jack chuckled and clapped. "Well said, Ms. Jarvis. But that sounds awfully like something Mr. Farwell taught you."

The disdain in his eyes and the contemptuous expression chilled Roxanne. She remembered their first meeting; his gentle, courteous demeanor. He'd believed in her when others doubted. Now, he seemed a changed man, prioritizing profit over patients' lives.
