Chapter 1561: Being Too Kind to You
Roxanne frowned, sensing the urgency of the situation. She no longer seemed as relaxed as she had yesterday. The research institute couldn't afford inaction; patients couldn't wait.
"I'm going to the research institute now," she declared, rising and heading upstairs to change.
Lucian remained silent, knowing he couldn't stop her. When she returned, he said, "I won't accompany you this time. I've explained the situation; you know how to negotiate."
Roxanne appreciated his trust, responding with a grin. "Okay. I'll handle it."
Lucian nodded. "Call if you need me."
Roxanne hummed in acknowledgement before leaving.
At the institute, she found Linda anxiously waiting outside her office, distress etched on her face. Seeing Roxanne, Linda exclaimed, "Dr. Jarvis, what do we do? The factory's been calling!"
The factory was ready for production, awaiting registration and the necessary herbsโneither of which had arrived. The project stalled.
Roxanne smiled reassuringly. "I'll speak with Mr. Damaris. Don't worry."
Linda nodded and stepped aside.
Inside her office, Roxanne's expression darkened. She called Jack. He answered deliberately slowly. "Ms. Jarvis, what is it?"
Roxanne said calmly, "Please tell me when you're available, Mr. Damaris. I wish to speak with you."
His tone, upon hearing her formal address, turned cold and sarcastic. "What else is there to discuss, Ms. Jarvis? Didn't we make it clear? Damaris Group and the institute have two options: terminate the collaboration or increase Damaris Group's share."
Roxanne lowered her eyes. "You're simply pressuring me to accept the second option, Mr. Damaris."
She heard his cold snort. "You reap what you sow, Ms. Jarvis. I wanted a compromise, but you seem to be following Mr. Farwell's lead. He's sharp, but out of his depth in pharmaceuticals."
Roxanne's expression revealed aversion.
"Let's not involve others, Mr. Damaris," she said, changing the subject. "When would you be available to discuss this?"
Jack retorted, "Oh? Did Mr. Farwell devise another brilliant idea?"
Roxanne pursed her lips. "No one else is involved. It's just us. The patients relying on this product will suffer most from any further delay."
Jack finally agreed to a meeting. "You're right. I don't want the patients to suffer. Let's meet at noon!"
"Very well, I'll be there," Roxanne replied.
Jack chuckled. "Of course. You should have come to me sooner. I've been too kind to you."
This statement re-established their business relationship, though Jack's condescending tone remained.
