Chapter 1581: Agree With You
“As far as I know, Mr. Damaris's vision for this project was to give patients a fighting chance. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.” Despite her efforts to explain, some team leaders continued to whisper among themselves, casting suspicious glances her way. The conference room was so quiet she could hear a leader's whisper.
“If anyone has any concerns, please don't hesitate to voice them. I'm here to listen,” Roxanne said courteously, looking at the team leader.
The team leader turned and met her gaze. After a few seconds of silence, he voiced his doubt. “Ms. Jarvis, you were the only one who negotiated with the Damaris Group, and we were kept in the dark throughout the negotiation.”
Roxanne lowered her gaze slightly. “I'll explain everything if you wish to know what transpired.” She felt uneasy, looking at their faces. She had acted unilaterally, setting the price without consulting her team. After witnessing Jack's behavior, she realized she couldn't tolerate the apathy of some medical practitioners toward patients.
Everyone fixed their gazes on her, awaiting her explanation. Roxanne gathered her courage. “I proposed a price of one hundred and twenty for the medicine, but Mr. Damaris insisted on three hundred.”
A heavy silence fell. Roxanne saw their seriousness, a dawning understanding in their eyes.
“Sorry, but I want to know why you set that price,” a team leader finally said.
Roxanne remained composed. “I want patients to be able to afford the medicine. This might incur short-term losses, but the long-term benefits—both for the patients and the institute's reputation—are worth it.”
In other words, she prioritized patients and the institute, unlike Jack, who prioritized the Damaris Group.
After explaining, Roxanne smiled. “That's my perspective. If you disagree and want to withdraw, I won't hold it against you. But I hope we can all keep the production technology secret.”
Silence descended again, causing Roxanne to clench her hand on the table. Her unease persisted.
“I agree with you,” someone said, throwing their support behind her. Roxanne's eyes lit up.
The leader continued, “I appreciate your support. We've poured our hearts and souls into this institute, and Dr. Jarvis's actions are in the organization's best interests. I hope her decision propels us forward.”
“I agree that Mr. Damaris's pricing is a little steep,” another team leader added.
The others quickly voiced their support. Roxanne was pleasantly surprised. “Thank you for backing me up.” She’d expected them to side with Jack, given their closeness. All the team leaders wore somber expressions. “Dr. Jarvis, we believe in your vision. We want the institute to succeed.”
Roxanne sighed in relief. “So, does anyone have leads on medicinal herb suppliers we can contact?”
It turned out everyone present had worked at the institute for years and had connections in the pharmaceutical industry. They immediately began brainstorming potential suppliers.
