Chapter 1582: A CEO Has To Eat

The research team had spent the entire afternoon grappling with the problem, yet reached no conclusion. One experienced team leader sighed, "Damaris Group produces some of the world's highest-quality medicinal herbs. Finding rivals will be challenging, especially since we need large quantities."

Everyone was stumped, including the team leader. "If there's no other option," he conceded, "we'll have to compromise on pricing." Another leader had already considered this worst-case scenario. Despair hung heavy in the conference room; Roxanne's heart sank.

With lunchtime approaching, she adjourned the meeting. "Let's stop here," she announced. "Please keep this confidential; no need to spread negativity. I'll brainstorm solutions." Everyone agreed.

Then, brightening, Roxanne added, "The atmosphere's been tense. Organize team lunches this afternoon; I'll cover the costs." She hoped to lift spirits. The team understood and readily agreed.

Roxanne watched them leave, then sat alone, unable to eat, mulling over the crisis. She considered calling Harvey, knowing he'd be thrilled with her medicinal breakthroughs. His industry connections might yield high-quality herb suppliers. She reached for her phone, only to receive a call from Lucian.

Roxanne composed herself before answering. "Have you eaten?" Lucian's deep, comforting voice filled her ear. Feeling aggrieved, she replied, "No. I've been busy all afternoon, but I have no appetite."

"Come out. I'm outside the research institute," Lucian said, his tone warm and caring. Roxanne's eyes lit up; she went outside. "Why are you here? Aren't you working?"

Lucian replied affectionately, "Even a CEO has to eat. Besides, I wore you out yesterday, so I'm making it up to you. Or else you'll be sleeping in the guest room again."

The memory of last night brought a blush to Roxanne's cheeks. She quickly scanned her surroundings for onlookers, relieved to find none. "Stop that nonsense," she chided. "I'm practically living at the company!"

Lucian chuckled, remaining silent but keeping the call open. Exiting the institute, Roxanne saw his familiar Bentley. The window facing the building was down, making Lucian visible to everyone. He hung up as he got out.

Roxanne quickly joined him. "What do you want to eat?" he asked, glancing at her in the rearview mirror. Her expression mirrored last night's. The Damaris Group problem remained unsolved, and things seemed to be worsening.
