Chapter 1588: He Is the Eldest Child

At the end of their conversation, Shawn walked Frieda to the door. โ€œI had a great time talking to you today. Itโ€™s a pity we didnโ€™t have drinks together. When will you be free to have a meal with me, Ms. Queen?โ€

Frieda hesitated, then several ideas blossomed in her mind, recalling their pleasant conversation. Shawn was attractive and wielded influence comparable to the Farwell family. This was an opportunity to climb the social ladderโ€”an opportunity she wouldn't refuse, especially considering her desire to leverage Aubree's marriage to Lucian. She agreed to a date.

As Shawn watched her leave, his expression darkened. The Queen family's close ties to the Farwells made Frieda a valuable asset. He suspected Aubree harbored secrets. If affection failed to control her, he would use Aubree to obtain information on Frieda. He would control Frieda, no matter the cost.

On her way home, Frieda reflected on Shawn's actions. His ability to send Aubree abroad undetected by the Farwell family or the police was impressive. If she won his heart, Aubree would become insignificant, easily disposed of. A subtle smugness played on her lips as she entered the Queen residence.

โ€œWhere have you been?โ€

Jonathan had been closely monitoring her. Noticing her absence from the company that afternoon, he had waited for her return.

Frieda looked up, flashing him a casual smile. โ€œNowhere. I just took a stroll. I finally got out after being cooped up at home for the past few days.โ€

Jonathanโ€™s gaze was suspicious.

Frieda adopted a childlike voice. โ€œDonโ€™t be so paranoid, Jonathan. Aubreeโ€™s gone. I canโ€™t find her even if I wanted to. I really just went out for some fresh air.โ€

Jonathan reluctantly accepted her explanation, but cautioned, โ€œDonโ€™t do anything stupid again. Be good and stay home. Grandpa and I wonโ€™t let you suffer.โ€

Frieda nodded obediently.

โ€œBy the way, I think I saw Lucian this afternoon. What did he want with you?โ€ Frieda asked.

Jonathan had nothing to hide. โ€œHe wants my help contacting some medicinal herb suppliers. It has nothing to do with you.โ€

Relieved, Friedaโ€™s smile widened.

Jonathan, reminded of Lucianโ€™s marriage, felt a sense of urgency. โ€œItโ€™s late. Rest early. Iโ€™m going to work.โ€

Frieda hummed in agreement and went upstairs. Once in her room, her expression hardened. What right did Jonathan, simply because he was the eldest and started working at the company sooner, have to dictate her actions? She would make the family elders regret this once she married into a more powerful family.

Lucian and Roxanne remained on Jonathan's mind, but he didn't dwell on it. He went to his study and began contacting medicinal herb suppliers known to the Queen family.
