Chapter 1589: A Heartwarming Sight

Roxanne had been in a meeting all afternoon, yet still had no leads. She looked gloomy upon returning to the Farwell residence.

"Mommy, why didn't you pick us up this afternoon?"

Lucian had collected the children, and they had been asking for Roxanne all evening. Benny immediately greeted her at the door, his disappointment evident. Roxanne forced a smile. "I was busy. I'll pick you up when I'm finished with work."

Lucian, observing from the side, raised an eyebrow. "Are you upset I picked you up? Or do you prefer Mr. Lawson?"

The children immediately hugged his legs. "No! We don't want Mr. Lawson. We want you, Daddy!"

"Go play then," Lucian said, patting their heads.

The children, sensing the adults needed to talk, quietly dispersed. Lucian approached Roxanne and caressed her face. "Still no leads?"

Roxanne, feeling disheartened, leaned her forehead against his shoulder. "No. I don't know what to do. I'm so tired. I never knew business negotiations were this exhausting."

Lucian pulled her into his arms and patted her back. "Don't worry. I've asked Jonathan to contact all the medicinal herb suppliers in the country."

Roxanne smiled. "Thank you."

Lucian looked into her eyes. "Just don't forget what you promised me."

Roxanne blushed at the sincerity in his gaze and nodded.

Catalina announced dinner, interrupting their conversation. They joined the children at the table, but Roxanne's appetite was affected by the day's events.

Noticing this, Lucian frowned and put down his fork. Everyone looked at him questioningly as he rolled up his sleeves and went into the kitchen.

Roxanne followed. "I'll take a look."

She found Lucian cooking. A guess formed in her mind, but she softly asked, "What are you doing?"

Lucian turned. "Why are you here?"

"You left the table, so I was worried," Roxanne replied, approaching him.

Lucian joked, "Worried I'd burn down the kitchen?"

Roxanne laughed. Lucian, relieved, kissed her before explaining, "You didn't eat much, so I'm making a salad. Salads are appetizing. My cooking isn't great, you know, but I'll use less vinegar this time."

The memory of his past culinary attempts made Roxanne smile. They prepared the salad together, chatting softly. It was a heartwarming sight.

The children, having finished their dinner, tactfully left, giving the adults some privacy. Roxanne ate a large portion of the salad and finished her risotto.

Afterward, Lucian told Roxanne to rest while he cared for the children.
