Frieda glanced at the supposedly perfect couple before turning to Roxanne, who sat in a corner. Satisfied, she found an excuse to leave the other elders.
โHey! Why are you sitting here all by yourself, Dr. Jarvis?โ
Roxanne had finally found a quiet corner to regain her composure. However, just as she began to calm down, she heard Frieda's sarcastic question. Looking up, she saw Frieda standing haughtily before her.
Roxanne frowned, annoyed. Frieda had just been loudly proclaiming Lucian and Aubree's perfect match to the eldersโclearly intending for Roxanne to hear. Roxanne never expected Frieda to seek her out, even after leaving the main group.
Unaware of Roxanne's annoyance, Frieda mocked her, gesturing towards Lucian and Aubree. โDo you see that? Lucian and Aubree are meant to be together, and everyone thinks so. Who do you think you are? Jealous? Know your place! Youโre not worthy of Lucian. Unlike you, Aubree is!โ
Roxanne chuckled coldly.
Frieda frowned. โWhatโs so funny?โ
Roxanne shrugged nonchalantly. โNothing. I just find it weird to see such a dedicated minion.โ
โMinion?โ Frieda was taken aback. Then, her expression turned vicious. Pointing at Roxanne, she gritted her teeth. โWho are you calling a minion?โ
Roxanne stood, answering calmly, โWho else? Please stop bragging, Ms. Queen. Lucianโs relationships are none of my business, and frankly, I donโt care. Youโve mentioned them countless times, but have you ever seen me flinch?โ
Frieda sensed a shift in Roxanneโs demeanor. Flustered, she opened her mouth, but no words came out.
Roxanne smirked, approaching Frieda. โSo stop bothering me with things that don't concern you. Do you have any idea how annoying you are?โ
Roxanne walked away without another glance.
It took Frieda a long time to regain her composure. Furious at Roxanne's words, she wanted to lash out, but Roxanne was already gone. Roxanne had fled quickly to avoid further nonsense; she wasn't sure how she would react to another encounter.
Since Frieda had found her in the furthest corner, Roxanne sought a new quiet spot, this time closer to the banquet crowd. Coincidentally, it was directly opposite Lucian. He noticed her immediately.
Just as Roxanne was settling into the silence, a man approached. โHi, there. Nice to meet you. May I know which prominent family youโre from?โ
Roxanne froze momentarily, then smiled faintly. โIโm sorry, but Iโm just a doctor. Iโm not from a prominent family.โ
The rich gentleman also froze, then quickly smiled. โJudging from your demeanor, I thought you were from a prominent family. Would I be lucky enough to be your acquaintance? We could be friends.โ
