Chapter 1622: Fallen Sick

After lunch at a nearby restaurant, Roxanne felt faint and nearly collapsed at the entrance. A restaurant employee thankfully caught her, and after thanking him, she returned to the research institute. She felt unwell throughout the afternoon but persevered, completing the required tests on the medicinal herbs.

Linda arrived to check on her as nightfall approached. "Dr. Jarvis, is there anything else I can help you with?" she asked. Linda, adhering to the institute's strict working hours, typically checked on Roxanne before leaving for the day.

Roxanne replied, "Nope, I'm about to leave as well." However, Linda noticed Roxanne's pale complexion. "Are you suffering from work fatigue, Dr. Jarvis?" she asked with concern.

Roxanne admitted, "Perhaps. It's a busy period, but things will be fine once the pharmaceutical manufacturing process is back on track."

Linda worried, "If the medicinal herbs are ready, I can handle the rest. You should rest at home for two days, Dr. Jarvis; you don't look well."

Roxanne hesitated but declined, "It's okay, I'm fine. Don't worry about me." After tidying up, she ushered Linda to the door. "Come on, let's leave together. I'm ready to go home."

Outside, Lucian waited by the car. He rushed to meet them as Linda, after a polite smile, departed.

"You're here? Why didn't you tell me earlier..." Roxanne began, but immediately felt lightheaded and swayed.

Lucian, frowning, quickly supported her. "What's wrong?"

Roxanne, though unwell, tried to remain calm. "It's nothing serious. I've overworked myself lately, but I'll be fine after some rest."

Lucian studied her intently, his expression gloomy. "You don't look well," he stated, mirroring Linda's observation. Roxanne wondered if she truly looked that ill. Seeing his concern, she tried to reassure him. "It's nothing. I'm a doctor; I'd know if I were sick." She smiled, adding, "It's getting late. Let's go pick up the children."

She walked towards the car, Lucian watching her with growing apprehension. He'd seen her tired before from work, but never this exhausted. Her pallor and darker lips spoke volumes. He concluded she was ill, likely pushing herself due to the progress in the pharmaceutical manufacturing process.

He quickly got into the driver's seat. "I'll have Cayden pick up the kids. Let's go to the hospital."
