Chapter 1623: Emergency

Roxanne balked when she heard their destination. "I'm fine! How could I be sick? I was perfectly well this morning when I left the house!" She checked her pulse, hoping to convince Lucian, though she felt unwell, dismissing the symptoms. She wanted to reassure him, meticulously checking her pulse.

Lucian slowed the car, watching her in the rearview mirror. Tension thickened. Roxanneโ€™s fingers remained on her wrist; a worried expression clouded her face. "Something's wrong with my pulse!" she muttered, perplexed by her inability to assess it properly.

"How are you feeling? Any discomfort?" Lucian asked, his patience waning.

Roxanne looked at him, sensing his worry in his tone. He clenched his jaw, wishing he could instantly transport her to a hospital. Seeing his anxiety, a warm feeling eased her own apprehension. She smiled reassuringly. "It's nothing serious. I simply overworked myself. A couple of days of traditional medicine will fix me." She didn't want to alarm him, believing a hospital couldn't pinpoint the root cause and preferring to study her condition herself.

Lucian remained firm. "You need a thorough checkup. Doctors can't treat themselves, and there's no guarantee you assessed your pulse correctly. There's a Queen Group hospital nearby. I'm taking you."

Roxanne, understanding his worry, conceded. "If it'll ease your mind, let's go." She discreetly checked her pulse again, trying to understand the anomaly. Lucian, however, accelerated.

Unbeknownst to Roxanne, her pallor was alarming. As time passed, Lucian noticed a disturbing change: Roxanne's lips were darkening, turning purple. This wasn't a typical illness; she seemed poisoned!

"I'll call Cayden to pick up the children," he said, attempting conversation. "Any message for them?"

Roxanne's consciousness was fading. The gravity of her condition finally struck her; weakness washed over her, her eyelids heavy.

Before she could speak, her head slumped, and she fainted.

"Roxanne!" Lucian slammed the accelerator, reaching for her icy-cold hand. He rubbed it, trying to warm her. "We're almost there, Roxanne. Everything will be fine. I won't let anything happen to you..." The words were as much for her as for himself.

A sudden thought spurred him to call the hospital, requesting all specialists be on standby. Still uneasy, he dispatched men to find the world's best specialists, arranging private jet transport.

Upon arrival, Roxanne was immediately rushed into the emergency room.
