Chapter 1625: Answer My Call

Five minutes later, Lucian arrived at Roxanne's ward on the top floor. She lay in the hospital bed, already dressed in a gown, her face pale, her lips purplish. She looked gravely ill. Lucian's heart ached; his breath hitched.

After a long moment, he finally managed, "Roxanne, can you hear me?" Leaning over, he gently touched her cheek, his own pain almost unbearable. There was no response. He checked her breathing, confirming she was still alive.

Unable to bear the sight, he turned to the hospital director. "The moment those doctors arrive, send them to me immediately!"

The director readily agreed. Lucian spent the night beside Roxanne's bed, checking her breathing every ten minutes.

At five in the morning, several cars arrived, bringing the renowned doctors. They were immediately ushered to Roxanne's ward, their arrival met by a chilling atmosphere. Lucian stood, silently making way for them. His presence alone was enough to convey the gravity of the situation; the doctors understood the consequences of failure.

Despite their careful examination, their findings mirrored those of the previous dayโ€”they couldn't determine the cause of Roxanne's illness.

"You're all trash!" Lucian exploded. "Get out! The Farwell Group will cease sponsoring your projects, effective immediately!"

The doctors exchanged uneasy glances. The Farwell family's wealth was legendary; losing their financial backing would be a devastating blow to their international projects.

An elderly, esteemed doctor spoke up, "Mr. Farwell, Mrs. Farwell's condition is highly unusual. Please allow us more time. I assure you, she is merely unconscious; nothing will happen to her in the meantime."

"In the meantime?" Lucian's gaze was cold. "How long is 'meantime'? Can you give me a timeframe? And even if you could, how can you guarantee Roxanne's safety?"

The doctors fell silent. A heavy tension filled the ward. Then, a phone rangโ€”Lucian's, on the bedside table.

All eyes turned to the phone. A collective breath was held as they waited to see who dared to call Lucian at this moment.

Lucian answered, pausing only momentarily before recognizing the caller ID: Jack. His heart sank, his expression grim.

"Mr. Farwell, I didn't expect you to answer! I thoughtโ€”" Jack's tone, heard over the phone, was a curious blend of respect and disdain.
