Chapter 1624: Nothing Out of the Ordinary
The hospital director stood beside Lucian outside the emergency room. "Mr. Farwell," he said comfortingly, "the city's best doctors are here. Mrs. Farwell will be fine!"
Lucian ignored him, his gaze fixed on the light above the emergency room door. Images of Roxanne's face, increasingly pale, flickered in his mind. He felt utterly helpless. He had watched the woman he loved fall unconscious, unable to do anything. He didn't even know what had happened. This was the second time; last time, she had nearly not woken up. What would happen this time? The thought sent a chill down his spine. If anything happened to herโฆ
His eyes narrowed fiercely. If anything happened to Roxanne, he would go after Jack. Jack's actions had made life difficult for her, driving her to overwork. This was all his fault.
Just as rage boiled within him, his phone rang. He composed himself, about to reject the call, when he saw it was Pippa. He'd meant to call Cayden to fetch the children, but Roxanne's collapse had made him forget.
In a hoarse voice, he answered, "I'm sorry, Ms. Ward. Please keep the children a little longer. I'll send Cayden for them."
Pippa readily agreed.
After the call, Lucian instructed Cayden to collect the children.
"Mr. Farwell, what if the kids ask about Mrs. Farwell?" Cayden asked, remembering the previous incident. He needed Lucian's guidance, even if it meant lying later.
Lucian paused, glancing at the red light. In a deep voice, he said, "Tell them Roxanne's on a business trip, and I sent her."
Cayden agreed, hung up, and hurried to the kindergarten.
Lucian remained outside the emergency room, trying to maintain his composure. Finally, the door opened.
He seized the doctor's arm. "How is she? Is Roxanne awake?" he demanded coldly.
The doctor, intimidated by Lucian's aura and the hospital director's presence, stammered, "N-not yetโฆ We were about toโฆ to treat her, butโฆ we found nothing wrong with Mrs. Farwell."
In other words, they had done nothing after keeping Roxanne for so long.
"You're all trash!" Lucian roared. "Why didn't you tell me sooner? If anything happens to Roxanne, I'll go after all of you!"
The other doctors, emerging from the emergency room, trembled.
The hospital director stepped forward. "Mr. Farwell," he soothed, "as you instructed, I've contacted the world's best doctors. They're en route and will arrive tomorrow morning at the latest."
"Tomorrow morning?" Lucian repeated, his voice sharp.
The director, visibly shaken, quickly changed the subject. "Mrs. Farwell has been moved to a room on the top floor. Would you like to see her? Perhaps you can wake her up."
