Chapter 1638: Exchange for the Antidote

After leaving the Damaris residence, Lucian returned to the hospital. He felt uneasy, despite having been gone only a few hours. He wondered if the information gleaned from Jack could help the specialists revive Roxanne.

He sped to the hospital, arriving at the entrance twenty minutes later. He strode to the top floor. The director and specialists remained baffled by Roxanne's condition.

"Mr. Farwell!"

The staff turned at the sound of his footsteps, then froze at his arrival. Their faces fell at the sight of his grim expression; they had yet to find a way to save Dr. Jarvis.

Ignoring their greetings, Lucian entered the ward to check on Roxanne. Zayne, the director, followed quickly. "Mr. Farwell, Mrs. Farwell is unchanged. Don't worry!"

Roxanne's condition remained the same. Lucian, unable to bear looking at her, turned to Zayne. "I need to speak with the specialists."

Zayne readily agreed. Outside the ward, Zayne addressed the assembled specialists. "Mr. Farwell wishes to speak with you."

Lucian explained what Jack had done to Roxanne. "Roxanne wasn't poisoned. Prolonged exposure to a specific essential oil caused her symptoms." He asked, "Can anyone suggest a treatment?"

The specialists conferred amongst themselves. Knowing the cause might unlock a cure, and a successful treatment would bring immense favorโ€”and future financial supportโ€”from the Farwell family.

Despite their numbers, none had a solution. Roxanne's condition was clearly complex, and a successful treatment would bring significant professional recognition. After some deliberation, one doctor spoke.

"I have a question. Since it's scent-related, the person administering it must have been nearby. Did anything happen to that person?"

A slight frown touched Lucian's lips. "He's perfectly fine."

The doctor, sensing Lucian's displeasure, nervously continued. "Then the perpetrator must have taken an antidote beforehand."

Antidote?

Lucian's eyes narrowed. Now it made sense why Jack was so confident: he had the antidote, and intended to exchange it.
