Chapter 1639: Will Not Show Mercy

“Since Mrs. Farwell was poisoned by inhalation, she might have inhaled a medicinal herb,” another doctor suggested. “What kind of herb could it be?” Identifying the herb would simplify finding an antidote.

Everyone brainstormed, the room quickly filling with lively discussion. Lucian waited patiently, but after thirty minutes, their debate continued. Frustrated, he went to the ward.

The ward was eerily silent. Roxanne lay in a coma. Lucian approached the bed, leaning down to look intently at her.

“Don’t be scared, Roxanne. I’m finding a way to save you, and you’ll regain consciousness soon.” He kissed her gently, then stroked her hair, murmuring, “When you wake up, you will accept my proposal, and we will have a grand wedding.” He desperately wanted to make her his wife.

He lowered his gaze, concealing his agony. His hand, resting on her hair, trembled slightly. “It was my fault. I should have known Jack was a hypocrite and told you to stay away from him, instead of helping you negotiate with him. If I had, you wouldn't be like this…” He recalled their arguments about Jack, fury chilling him. If it weren't for Jack, we would be together now!

He whispered in her ear, “He hurt you, so I will never forgive him. Even if you plead for his mercy when you wake up, I won't show him any. Don't judge me for this.”

Roxanne remained still. Except for her deathly pale complexion, she could have been asleep. Lucian felt a surge of admonishment for her naiveté, her trust in Colby and now Jack. But he couldn't blame her now; he blamed himself.

As he recounted his mistakes, the phone rang. He answered. It was Madilyn. He remembered she was a good friend of Roxanne's, Archie and Benny's godmother, and a capable doctor. He answered without hesitation.

“Roxanne, what took you so long?” Madilyn grumbled. “I finally got a day off. Let’s take Archie and Benny out!”

Lucian glanced at Roxanne. “It’s me.”

Madilyn was surprised. Remembering their relationship, she teased, “Mr. Farwell, are you with Roxanne? Where is she? Want to join us?”
