Chapter 1646: They Are Your Children
โOh, come on. Did you honestly think Dr. Jarvis had Archie and Benny with another man?โ Colby asked, clearly amused by Lucianโs reaction. Colbyโs words struck home, and Lucianโs face instantly darkened.
Colby frowned, glancing at him. โIโm suddenly regretting my decisionโฆ How did Dr. Jarvis agree to be with you when you still refuse to believe in her?โ He continued, a hint of exasperation in his voice. After six long years, he knew Roxanne better than anyone; she wouldn't bother interacting with them if it weren't for their shared profession. Yet, Lucian still believed she'd had children with another man. The absurdity of it all was palpable.
The silence spoke volumes. Lucian's expression grew even gloomier. He was beginning to see a resemblance between himself and the boys, but could it simply be suggestion?
Colby, finally deciding on directness, revealed the truth. โThose two boys are your children with Dr. Jarvis. Why else do you think they're so close to you? But judging by your reaction, I suppose she hasn't told you. I assume she still doesn't trust you enough. It's just like how you don't fully trust herโฆโ He let out a derisive snort. โHa! You aren't all that impressive after all, Mr. Farwell!โ
Lucian's forehead throbbed. "Do you have evidence that Archie and Benny are my sons?โ He remembered Roxanne mentioning they were a year younger than Essie. Had she been lying all along?
โIโve been working with Dr. Jarvis since her first year abroad. I know best about the timing of her pregnancy and the men sheโs been in contact with! Thereโs no doubt youโre the boys' father!โ Colby snapped.
The revelation hit Lucian like a lightning bolt, leaving him speechless. Archie and Benny are mine, huh? My goodness. Should I feel happy or sad? Iโm overjoyed that Roxanne has never been with other men and that the two boys are my sons. At the same time, I canโt believe sheโs been hiding such a massive secret from me! Am I that unreliable to her? Why else would she hide the boysโ parentage? I can understand if she hid it when we weren't together, but our relationship has progressed so much. Why didn't she tell me the truth?
Colby, misinterpreting Lucian's silence as doubt, said coldly, โIf you don't believe me, you can always do a paternity test, Mr. Farwell. I don't have any reason to lie. What would I gain? I canโt believe youโre so paranoidโฆ No wonder Dr. Jarvis doesn't want to tell you the truth!โ
Snapping out of his daze, Lucian suppressed his turbulent emotions, though his voice still betrayed his anxiety. โThank you for your concern, Dr. Galloway, but I think Iโll confirm it with Roxanne. For now, itโd be best for everyone if you concentrated on her illness. After all, none of us knows how much longer she can wait.โ
Colbyโs gaze flickered, reminded of Roxanne's condition. His combative mood vanished; he lowered his head and fell silent. Lucian gave him an unreadable look and left.
