Chapter 1647: Someone Cannot Have

Lucian returned to his car with a heavy heart. Roxanne's condition weighed heavily on him, and his conversation with Colby had only increased his bewilderment. He wondered if Roxanne had distanced herself because he was getting too close to the boys. Was she afraid he'd discover their background, or worried he'd marry Aubree and fight for custody? His mind was a tangled mess. He couldn't understand her actions. Finally, he decided to set the matter aside; he could ask her later. The priority was getting her out of the coma.

Back at Damaris Group, Jack, having dismissed Hector, returned to his office. Lucian's aggressive tactics had surprisingly worked. Though his expression remained impassive, he instructed his assistant, Kevin, to prepare a list of Farwell Group's subsidiaries. He reasoned that Farwell Group's subsidiaries offered more potential for growth than research or pharmaceuticals. Why not consider Lucian's offer? Money was, after all, his primary concern.

Farwell Group had nearly a hundred subsidiaries, but Kevin efficiently compiled a detailed list. Jack meticulously reviewed it, finally selecting ten promising companies. He turned to Kevin, a self-satisfied look on his face. “Take a look. What do you think of these ten?”

Kevin initially thought he'd misheard, but the document confirmed it: ten of Farwell Group's most profitable subsidiaries. Any one would suffice for Damaris Group's needs. Kevin's hands trembled. “Mr. Damaris, isn't this excessive? Mr. Farwell won't agree to such a demand. It might even enrage him, dooming Damaris Group…”

Jack glared. “Short-sighted! You're young. Why think like that old fool?”

Kevin, cowed by Jack's reference to Hector, remained silent.

“To expand Damaris Group, we need substantial capital. Roxanne's life is in my hands; Lucian will pay anything to save her! Ten companies is a small price for the powerful Farwell Group,” Jack declared, his eyes burning with ambition.

Kevin remained apprehensive. He wondered if Jack planned to play mind games with Mr. Farwell, a formidable opponent who built Farwell Group from the ground up. Could Jack possibly win?

“Besides these ten companies, Roxanne's research institute and all its new medicines will be mine!” Jack exclaimed. “And Roxanne…” Kevin's heart pounded.

“If I can't have her, no one will,” Jack finished, his face devoid of emotion. “They'll learn the consequences of opposing me!”

Kevin, terrified by Jack’s chilling smile, looked away, unable to fathom the depths of his boss's ambition.
