Chapter 1659: How Much Pain?

When Lucian reached the ward and found the medical experts absent from the corridor, his heart sank. He opened the door; their hushed voices reached him, instantly darkening his mood.

โ€œMr. Farwellโ€ฆโ€

The experts hung their heads, guilt evident. He had entrusted them with Roxanneโ€™s care. Her current state suggested a serious breach of that trust.

Lucian strode to the bed. Witnessing Roxanne's pained expression, he commanded, "Don't mind me. Help her first!" Even Colby's tampering had not caused this level of suffering. What drug had Jack used?

Lucian felt her pain as acutely as if it were his own. His heart ached, his breath catching in his throat. Madilyn, though concerned, yielded space, assisting the medical team.

Lucian took Roxanne's hand, his own heart heavy with unspoken anguish. He wished he were the one suffering.

After receiving sedatives, Roxanne appeared calmer, yet a heavy tension hung in the air. While the sedatives offered temporary relief, the vasoconstriction remained a critical concern. An aneurysm was a constant threat, yet its cause remained elusive.

Following further emergency treatment, Roxanne's condition stabilized. The exhausted experts, drenched in sweat, were dismissed by Madilyn. "Thank you for your hard work, everyone. Go and rest. We'll continue brainstorming treatment options tomorrow."

Only three remained: Lucian, Madilyn, and Roxanne, whose face was pale, her breathing shallow. A profound sadness settled over Lucian and Madilyn as they watched her.

"Did you visit the Queen residence? What did Mr. Queen say?" Madilyn asked.

Lucian, after a moment of quiet contemplation, relayed Jonathan's grim assessment. Madilyn's face fell. "So, the Queen family can't help. We don't know how long we'll wait for those reclusive doctors. Roxanneโ€ฆ" The uncertainty of whether Roxanne would survive until then overwhelmed her.

Tears welled in Madilyn's eyes. "I've been a doctor for years, but I've never seen an unconscious patient react so violently. How much pain is Roxanne in?"

The sheer intensity of Roxanne's suffering, considering her petite frame, was almost unbearable to contemplate.

"I will cure her. She will be okay!" Lucian declared, his grip on Roxanne's hand tightening. Madilyn wasn't sure to whom that promise was directed.

Lucian would not accept this outcome. Their wedding, their future, remained unrealized.

Holding back tears, Madilyn said, "The three days Jack mentioned might be how long the drug takes effect. It hasn't even been three days, and Roxanne is already suffering like this." The thought of what the next three days might bring was suffocating. The mere possibility of Roxanne dying from the pain, even in a coma, filled Madilyn with dread.
