Chapter 1662: Get Her To Introduce You
Shawn's request to Peregrine was a long shot. Some time ago, Peregrine had been severely injured, and the Crawford family had covered his and his disciples' medical expenses. He owed them a considerable debt of gratitude. Years later, when Alister Crawford fell seriously ill, the Crawfords had summoned Peregrine from seclusion to treat him. In essence, their debt was settled.
Shawn sought Peregrine, uncertain of his willingness to emerge from seclusion. Fortunately, the elderly man still valued the Crawfords' kindness. Upon hearing Shawn's request at his residence, Peregrine hesitated only briefly before agreeing. "The Crawford family saved so many of my disciples," he'd explained. "Each life was a debt I owed. I have no reason to refuse your request! I'll do it!"
He immediately accompanied Shawn to the airport, forgoing packing entirely. Even Shawn was surprised by the ease with which things progressed.
"How is Old Mr. Crawford doing?" After inquiring about the Crawfords' well-being and learning of Alister's good health, Peregrine turned to Frieda, his concern for an old friend evident.
Frieda replied respectfully, "My grandfather also fell ill recently, but he has just recovered. Do you have time to visit him and provide treatment?" Her attempt to curry favor was transparent.
Peregrine, however, saw through it. "It's good he's recovered," he said. "Someone as kind as him will overcome anything. I'm only skilled in pharmacology; I won't be much help. His children and grandchildren should care for him."
Sensing Frieda's flattery, Peregrine closed his eyes, leaned back, and fell asleep. Frieda was left in awkward silence. The journey passed in quiet.
An hour later, their car stopped at a suburban mansion. Shawn quietly woke Peregrine. "I avoided the city, knowing you prefer peace. This mansion has everything you need; make yourself at home."
Peregrine nodded, adjusted his clothing, and exited gracefully, followed by Frieda and Shawn. Frieda's expression darkened after Peregrine's second rejection. She felt he possessed an inflated ego, exceeding even her grandfather's. What's so special about this man? she thought. He'd better not embarrass himself.
"Old Mr. Lomax holds a prominent position in medicine, so his confidence is understandable," Shawn said soothingly, despite her behavior. Frieda forced a smile.
At the mansion, Shawn arranged for Peregrine's breakfast and rest before discussing their next steps. "Old Mr. Lomax, we can't delay; the patient's condition is critical. But since a personal visit isn't feasible, might Ms. Queen introduce you?" he asked respectfully.
The elderly man nodded, unconcerned about introductions. His focus remained on treating the patient. With Peregrine's agreement, Shawn gave Frieda instructions before sending her to the Queen family to explain the situation.
