Chapter 1665: Do Not Leave Us Hanging
Peregrine frowned at Lucian's reply, then shook his head. Everyone was confused, hesitant to question his enigmatic reaction.
After a long silence, Peregrine finally spoke. โThe Four Peculiar PoisonsโCrimson Crane, Eviscero Gras, Final Day, and Mad Grinโare ancient legends. They don't exist; you can't obtain them.โ In other words, Jack's information was worthless.
Lucian's eyes darkened, a murderous glint flashing within them. He couldn't believe Jack had lied, potentially jeopardizing Roxanne's life if anyone followed his false advice.
Suppressing his anger, Lucian politely asked, โOld Mr. Lomax, what is your assessment of Roxanne's condition?โ
Peregrine silently observed Roxanne before declaring, โAll of you must leave. I need to conduct a thorough examination.โ
No one dared object. Though worried, they all departed, leaving Lucian lingering by the doorway, watching through the window. He trusted Peregrine's intentions but couldn't bear Roxanne out of his sight.
โLucian, Old Mr. Lomax is highly skilled. I'm sure he can cure Roxanne,โ Jonathan reassured him. Madilyn nodded in agreement; Roxanne's well-being concerned her deeply. As a medical professional, however, she knew of Merania's King of Medicine and had faith in Peregrine's abilities.
Despite their reassurances, Lucian remained focused on Roxanne, only nodding.
Peregrine examined Roxanne, taking her pulse and checking her eyelids and lips. He seemed to discover something, murmuring to himself. A moment later, he frowned and headed for the door. Lucian stepped aside.
โSummon the doctors who treated her yesterday!โ Peregrine snapped.
The doctors exchanged uneasy glances but obeyed. Madilyn stood quietly beside them.
Peregrine mercilessly questioned them. Their heads hung low, faces flushed with shame.
He snorted. โModern doctors are abysmal!โ
No one dared retort, except Madilyn, who anxiously pleaded, โOld Mr. Lomax, we lack experience, but we will strive to improve. Please, tell us what's wrong with Roxanne.โ
In an icy voice, Peregrine stated, โSheโs been poisoned.โ They knew this, but had failed to detect the symptoms; Peregrine had.
โHer arteries are hardening. Continued progression could lead to life-threatening internal bleeding. Delay is mortal danger!โ
Peregrine glared grimly at the doctors.
