Chapter 1686: A Real Marriage?

Watching Lucian and Elektra leave, Jack felt a fresh wave of annoyance. He furrowed his brow, muttering, "Childhood sweethearts? The Lane family? Isn't that too convenient?"

He had no doubt about Lucian's love for Roxanne; Lucian wouldn't have agreed to his request otherwise. But Elektra's sudden appearance felt suspiciously coincidental. He decided to summon Kevin. "Find out exactly who Elektra Lane is." He needed assurance.

That night, Kevin launched a thorough investigation. Within half an hour, he reported back. "Mr. Damaris, I've confirmed Elektra is the daughter of the Lane family. The Lanes and Farwells are close. A few years ago, the Lanes moved overseas, and Elektra went with them. However, there's no information on her recent return," Kevin explained respectfully.

Jack found the report lacking. "What about the marriage between the Farwells and Lanes? It's a major event! There's no way the Lanes wouldn't react!" He mused, "Any family would be eager to announce their daughter's marriage to Lucian. The Lane family's silence is unsettling."

His suspicions deepened. Kevin cautiously added, "My investigation revealed no reaction from the Lanes to the marriage news. It's as if they're unaware of itโ€ฆ"

Jack narrowed his eyes. "Unaware? Perhaps Lucian and Elektra haven't had time to tell them. Orโ€ฆthis marriage is a sham!"

Kevin was taken aback. A marriage was a momentous occasion; how could they not inform their family?

Jack fell silent, his initial frustration hardening into contempt. "Keep an eye on the Lanes."

Kevin, though uncertain of Jack's intentions, nodded and left. Alone, Jack smiled coldly. The Lane family's ignorance was intriguing. Had he pushed Lucian to the brink, forcing a fake marriage? Was it a marriage in name only? If so, how had Lucian won over the Lane heiress? Her family's prominence made her participation perplexing. Regardless, the truthโ€”real marriage or notโ€”would emerge through the Lanes' reaction. If Lucian dared deceive himโ€ฆ

Jack's eyes narrowed dangerously.

He had given Lucian the antidote to save Roxanne. However, the small vial contained only one-fifth of the necessary dosage, enough to keep Roxanne conscious for a time. After the antidote wore off, if Lucian kept his promise and left Roxanne, she would receive the remaining dosage. But if he liedโ€ฆJack would make him beg for mercy.
