Chapter 1690: Am Just Here To Help

Only after Roxanne swallowed the remaining antidote did Lucian release her. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. The antidote had clearly eased Roxanne's suffering, though her brow remained slightly furrowed.

Madilyn's tone softened. "The antidote is taking effect," she said, glancing at the specialists. "Thank you, everyone. You may all rest. I'll handle things from here."

The specialists, exhausted after days of continuous work, excused themselves and left. Only Roxanne, Madilyn, and Lucian remained in the ward.

Earlier, the chaos had kept Elektra at the doorway. Now, with Roxanne stabilized and everyone gone, she approached the bed, curiously observing the unconscious woman. Roxanne's face was exquisite; even pale and unconscious, she possessed a calming presence. Even Elektra, meeting Roxanne for the first time, felt compassion, remembering the ordeal she had endured. Elektra was particularly shocked by Lucian's selfless act of administering the antidote, regardless of his own safety. She marveled at the depth of his love and understood Aubree's six-year failure. Facing such devotion, Aubree stood no chance.

After observing Roxanne and Lucian's worried vigil, Elektra accepted the reality of the situation. The Lane family's proposed marriage alliance with the Farwells was now a distant thought. She would remain Lucian's close friend, offering support whenever needed.

"The antidote might not take immediate effect," Madilyn explained softly, turning to Elektra. "I didn't have time earlier, but I must ask: what is going on between you two?" Madilyn found it hard to believe Lucian would remarry so easily after witnessing his devotion. Elektra's minimal reaction to Lucian administering the antidoteโ€”a mere flicker of shockโ€”further puzzled her. But if they weren't married, how had Jack obtained the antidote?

Elektra met Madilyn's gaze. "Don't worry," she said softly. "I'm not your enemy. I'm just here to help."

This only deepened Madilyn's confusion. As she turned to question Lucian, she noticed the edge of a document peeking from Elektra's bag. "What... is this?" she asked, her heart tightening.

Elektra followed her gaze, a look of apology and regret flashing across her face as she saw the marriage certificate. She sought Lucian's approval before removing it. "This isโ€”"

"A marriage certificate?" Madilyn interrupted, disbelief evident. She stared at Elektra, then at Lucian. "You two... are married? No wonder Jack gave you the antidote..."
