Chapter 1692: To Have Worried You Both
After over an hour, as the sun rose, Roxanne finally opened her eyes. "Roxanne!"
Lucian instantly noticed. He grasped her hand, his eyes bloodshot. Madilyn, upon seeing her friend awake, wept, then laughed, reaching for Roxanne's other hand. "Roxanne, you're finally awake! You have no idea how frightened we've been. I thoughtโฆ I thought youโฆ" Madilyn trailed off, overcome with emotion.
Roxanne, emerging from her coma, thought slowly. Recalling events, she asked in disbelief, shifting her gaze between Madilyn and Lucian, "Was I unconscious that long?"
Seeing Lucian's haggard appearance, guilt washed over her. "I'm sorry to have worried you bothโฆ" She attempted to sit up, but lacked the strength after three days in a coma.
Madilyn gently pushed her back down. "Just lie down. How do you feel? Are you unwell anywhere?"
Roxanne worriedly asked, "Where are the kids? I was unconscious so long. They must be terrified." The memory of their tears ached her heart.
Lucian soothed her cheek. "They don't know yet. I told them you were on a business trip and will return tomorrow night."
Roxanne relaxed slightly, then focused on his exhaustion. She reached out to touch his face. Lucian released her hand.
"Have you not rested?" Roxanne asked, guilt evident in her furrowed brow. This was the first time she'd seen him so weary. While he'd been worried before, her previous unconsciousness had been brief. This time, three days had passed, and she knew he hadn't slept properly.
"I'm just glad you're awake. Nothing else matters. It's only a few days of sleep," Lucian chuckled, downplaying his exhaustion. He took her hand again. "I'm glad you woke up." He'd formulated a plan to deal with the Damaris family during his vigil, but Roxanne's awakening changed everything.
Another wave of guilt struck Roxanne. "I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have been stubborn." She regretted not going to the hospital sooner.
Lucian held her hand gently. His voice was deep and soothing. "Nothing matters as long as you're well. This isn't your fault. In fact, it's mine."
Roxanne was confused. "It's your fault?" Did something else happen while she was unconscious?
