Chapter 1701: I Can Save Myself
โMadilyn is worried about me and kept asking how Iโm doing,โ Roxanne replied with a smile.
Lucian nodded, then asked casually as he sat beside the bed, โI noticed a doctor was absent when I arrived. Did he tell you where he was going?โ
Roxanneโs smile faltered. She hadnโt expected Lucian to notice, let alone inquire. Regaining her composure, she replied calmly, โIโm not sure. Iโll be fine as long as people are around; it doesnโt matter if one or two step away. Iโve already regained consciousness, so you donโt need so many standing by. Let them rest.โ
She sighed helplessly.
Lucian seemed thoughtful, peeling an apple heโd retrieved from a grocery bag. โKnowing you, Roxanne, you wouldnโt want dessert immediately after recovering, let alone have me buy it from so far away. You probably need time alone, butโฆ hmmโฆ your reaction, and the expertsโ outside, seem suspicious. You must have told them something while I was gone. Given the situation, it must be about the poisoning.โ
A gloomy look clouded his eyes. He stopped peeling the apple, staring solemnly at Roxanne. โIs it true the poison has been completely removed?โ
After a pause, Roxanne chuckled helplessly. โYou noticed?โ She hadnโt expected him to discover her deception so quickly.
โI planned to tell you after finding a way to neutralize the poison. Iโm sorry I lied after promising not to keep secrets,โ she said apologetically.
Lucian frowned, anger flickering in his eyes. โDid Jack pull a trick? A fake antidote?โ
Roxanne shook her head. โThe antidote is real. Itโs justโฆโ
โItโs just what?โ Lucianโs tone grew colder.
Since he knew, Roxanne decided to be honest. โThe dosage was incomplete. I need four or five times more to completely rid my body of the poison. I spoke with the experts; we have a lead, so donโt worry too much.โ
Anxiousness flickered in Lucianโs eyes, but he quickly composed himself. โOh, Iโm not worried. I could deal with him again if necessary.โ
Roxanne felt touched. She caressed his cheek reassuringly. โThat wonโt be necessary. Iโm confident I can save myself. I mean, I developed a drug even the Damaris family couldnโt!โ
Jack, when they were still on good terms, had shown her some of the Damaris familyโs ancient medical texts, filled with information on rare herbs. Roxanne suspected the key to the antidote lay within those books, and fortunately, sheโd memorized them. Once the blood test results were in, she could use that information to identify the poison and synthesize an antidote herself.
