Chapter 1703: Bringing the Kids Over
โYouโve only just recovered, and you havenโt made a full recovery,โ Lucian replied with a disapproving frown.
โI know what Iโm doing. At least I can get out of bed and walk around now,โ Roxanne explained patiently.
After a brief argument, Lucian conceded, โYou canโt leave the hospital. If you must see them, Iโll have Cayden bring them over.โ
โIf you do that, theyโll find out Iโm sick,โ Roxanne protested hesitantly. She didnโt want the children to worry.
โWeโll tell them you caught a cold after getting off the plane, so I had you sent to the hospital for treatment. Theyโre still young; I donโt think theyโll discover the truth,โ Lucian suggested thoughtfully.
Roxanne remained unconvinced but agreed. Lucian immediately called Cayden.
Cayden, having just dropped off Madilyn and Elektra, arrived at the hospital as Lucian called.
โIโve safely returned Ms. Lane and Ms. Xander home, Mr. Farwell,โ Cayden reported.
โGood. I need you to go to the manor and bring the kids here,โ Lucian replied.
Cayden hesitated. โI thought you wanted to keep this secret from the children?โ He wondered if bringing them to the hospital would reveal the truth.
โPick them up tonight. If they ask questions, tell them Roxanne has a fever from the plane and is receiving treatment at the hospital,โ Lucian instructed.
Having received instructions and an excuse, Cayden complied. He waited until nightfall before going to the manor.
The three children rushed out the moment his car entered the courtyard. Their excited smiles vanished as they saw Cayden. โOh, itโs you, Mr. Lawsonโฆโ
Caydenโs heart ached at their disappointment. โCome on, Iโll take you to see your mom and dad.โ
Their faces brightened, but concern quickly replaced joy. โMommy told us to wait for her at home.โ
Archie stared at Cayden. โDid something happen to our mommy, Mr. Lawson?โ He wondered why she hadn't answered their calls and sent Mr. Lawson instead.
Benny and Estella shared his worry.
Cayden felt terrible about lying but knew it was unavoidable. โItโs not serious. Mrs. Farwell had a fever on the way back, so Mr. Farwell brought her to the hospital for a check-up. Itโs nothing to worry about!โ
Seeing their continued doubt, Cayden added, โIf youโre still worried, come to the hospital and see for yourselves. Mrs. Farwell wouldnโt have sent me if anything serious had happened, right?โ
The children, tentatively reassured, said goodbye to Catalina and got into the car. A somber mood settled over them during the drive. Cayden sighed, helpless to comfort them, aware of the gravity of the situation they were unaware of. They nearly lost their mother.
