Chapter 1704: Accompanying You

The car stopped before the hospital. Cayden exited and turned to retrieve the children, only to find them already waiting, their eager faces turned upward. He sighed inwardly at their anticipation, suppressing his own unease. He patted their heads comfortingly. "Let's go inside."

The children nodded and followed him into the building. Before entering the elevator, Cayden messaged Lucian, informing him of their arrival. The elevator reached the top floor. Lucian waited for them.

"Daddy!" The children rushed from the elevator, clinging to Lucian's legs.

Lucian ruffled their hair, then nodded to Cayden. "Thank you. You can have tomorrow off."

Cayden bowed respectfully before closing the elevator doors, leaving the family to themselves.

"Daddy, where's Mommy?" Archie asked, nervously tugging at Lucian's shirt.

Lucian looked down. "She's in her room."

He led them to Roxanne's room, the children trailing close behind. Seeing their mother lying in bed, tears streamed down their faces.

"Mommy, what happened? Are you okay? We were so worried!" Their parents hadn't been home for days; their mother hadn't answered her phone. They had been good, but worry had consumed them. The brave faces theyโ€™d maintained crumbled at Roxanne's pale appearance.

Roxanne hadn't expected their worry; her heart ached at their tears. She tried to sit up, but the children rushed to her side. "Mommy, lie down."

Roxanne could only wipe their tears. "Don't cry. I'm fine. I was just tired and slightly feverish for two days. I'll be fine after a couple of days' rest." She paused, smiling. "See? I'm fine!"

Despite her reassurance, Estella's tears continued. "But...Mommy, you don't look good..." she sobbed, the memory of Roxanne's previous unconsciousness flooding her with fear. Her grip on Roxanne's sleeve tightened.

Roxanne's eyes welled up. She felt terrible for worrying them. "I really am fine. Have you forgotten I'm the most amazing doctor? I can cure anything, certainly a fever." She held their hands to her forehead. "Feel it? It's not hot anymore."

The children touched her forehead, nodding, tears still falling. Roxanne smiled, "Be good and wait for me at home. I'll rest here for two more days, then come home."

Benny shook his head. "We want to stay with you, Mommy!"

Estella nodded in agreement. Archie simply stared, silently crying.

Roxanne patted their heads. "You can't. My fever's gone, but I still have a cold. You'll get sick. I don't have the energy to treat you too."

The children's lips tightened in displeasure. They remained by the bed, their eyes conveying their wish to stay.
