Chapter 1715: What To Do
In the ward, Roxanne and Peregrine discussed methods for analyzing the antidote's contents. "A single test won't suffice," Roxanne suggested, her voice weakened by illness and exertion. "However, we have a limited amount; we need the most efficient approach." Peregrine shared her concern.
After brainstorming solutions, Madilyn called. Roxanne answered, hearing Madilyn's somber tone. Jonathan had likely informed Madilyn of the situation, but Roxanne had no time for comfort. She immediately explained their plan. Madilyn listened attentively, offering insightful critiques. They devised three tests that would effectively determine the antidote's components without wasting it.
However, Madilyn couldn't help but exclaim, "Still, there's no guarantee it contains the necessary medicinal herbs."
Roxanne grinned, reassuring her, "Given the circumstances, we can only do our best. I'm counting on you." Madilyn silently began the tests.
Meanwhile, Jonathan projected Madilyn's work via video call for Roxanne and Peregrine to monitor, just in case of errors. Linda, anxiously watching from the side, silently prayed for the presence of the necessary herb for Dr. Jarvis.
Roxanne, noticing the first analysis complete, instructed, "You can start the next test. I'll check the report later." A coughing fit immediately followed, the pain radiating through her body. Despite the agony, she persevered, watching Madilyn.
Peregrine, observing her suffering, checked her vital signs. The readings confirmed his fears: the antidote's effects were waning, and Roxanne was in excruciating pain. Her resilience was remarkable, but he doubted how much longer she could endure.
Lucian also noted her rapid decline, his heart sinking. Aware of her work's importance, he remained silently at her side, his hatred for Jack intensifying. He vowed a thousandfold revenge once Roxanne recovered.
The laboratory trio, though focused on their work, perceived Roxanne's deteriorating condition through her weakening voice. As her voice faltered, their own spirits plummeted; even Madilyn's hands trembled.
Noticing her friend's distress, Roxanne smiled, lifting Madilyn's spirits. "Calm down, Madilyn. Just avoid mistakes. I can still keep going." Madilyn, lowering her eyes, nodded wordlessly, struggling to compose herself.
