Chapter 1736: You Are Lying

Lucian remained silent, venting his frustration by kicking and punching Jack. Jack, eventually rendered speechless, could only breathe deeply to alleviate the pain. Only after a considerable time, when Jack seemed impervious to the beating, did Lucian cease. Jack's heart sank. Roxanne must have developed the antidote.

He found it hard to believe. It had taken him a long time, yet Roxanne managed it within a day. How was that possible? Lucian's cold disdain caused Jack to shudder. His earlier confidence, fueled by Roxanne's antidote, vanished. He felt only fear. Lucian's imposing presence was overwhelming; Jack struggled to breathe.

“M-Mr. Farwell, let's talk. Even if Ms. Jarvis developed the antidote, there must be flaws. I can—” He hoped this would secure his release. But at the mention of Roxanne, Lucian grabbed him by the collar, lifting him from the table. Fear flickered in Jack's eyes.

With a grim expression, Lucian gritted out, “How dare you mention Roxanne? She suffered because of hypocrites like you! You know that!”

Jack's lips quivered. Lucian's icy gaze dumbfounded him. With a cold smile, Lucian continued, “If I remember correctly, you wanted to watch me climb the stairs half an hour ago, Mr. Damaris? If Roxanne hadn't developed the antidote, what else did you plan, Mr. Damaris?”

Before Jack could answer, a foot stomped on his leg. The sharp pain made him grimace.

“Do you want me to lick your shoes as well, Mr. Damaris?” Lucian mocked.

Fear and astonishment warred within Jack. Lucian had confirmed Roxanne's success.

“N-No way! No one can crack my formula! Impossible! It took me so long! How could Roxanne create the antidote in one day? You're lying!” Jack muttered, head down. Looking up, he sought the truth. “Roxanne is dead, isn't she? That's why you're here for revenge, isn't it?” He preferred believing Roxanne was dead to accepting she'd cracked his formula. Besides, she was near death.

Lucian eyed him disdainfully. “What's wrong, Mr. Damaris? Did you think your poison was invincible? You can't believe Roxanne cracked your formula after all your work, am I right? To be honest, I have to thank you, Mr. Damaris. She was able to create the antidote because you gave her the chance to be awake! As for you, prepare to pay the price for your actions!”
