Chapter 1737: Make Damaris Group Pay
“This can’t be…” Jack mumbled in disbelief. He’d added medicinal herbs used only in ancient medicine to his concoction. How could Roxanne have cracked his formula? He’d spent so much time creating the antidote. How did she do it?
Lucian’s voice broke through his stunned silence. “Nothing is impossible. Now that Roxanne is fine, you better be prepared to pay the price for what you’ve done!”
Jack stared in bewilderment. Pay the price? Wasn't this bad enough?
Lucian seemed to read his thoughts. “This is only the beginning, Mr. Damaris. It isn’t enough vengeance for what you’ve done.” A murderous glint shone in his eyes. “If it were up to me, you’d be dead by now!”
Their eyes met, and a chilling wave washed over Jack, from his toes to his head. He cowered in fear. One look, and he knew Lucian meant every word.
Earlier, Lucian’s punches had landed squarely on his vital organs. If Lucian had used more force, Jack doubted he could stand. Even without full strength, Jack felt near death. Lucian had intended to kill him, but for some reason, changed his mind en route. The realization terrified him; he trembled uncontrollably, close to losing control.
“Then what do you want?”
Lucian tossed him aside like a rag. Jack fell back onto the table. “Mr. Damaris, you can look forward to it. Don’t worry, I won’t ask you to beg; I never intended to go easy on you!”
Lucian turned and left. Jack and Kevin were equally shaken. They’d believed victory was theirs, eager to humiliate Lucian, only to be humiliated themselves.
“Mr. Damaris!” Kevin, momentarily stunned by the fiasco, snapped back to reality. Seeing Jack on the table, he rushed to help.
Jack was in terrible shape, his hands trembling. “Impossible! How can this be?” He grabbed Kevin’s collar. “How could she have created the antidote so quickly?”
Kevin, stunned but fearful, dared not let go. “I-I’m not sure either. Ms. Jarvis must be highly skilled in medicine.” Otherwise, Jack wouldn't have tried so hard to win her over.
“No way! Lucian must be lying!” Jack’s denial revealed the overwhelming nature of the information.
Kevin, seeing his state, remained silent. “Let me send you to the hospital.”
Lucian’s actions made it clear: Roxanne must have created the antidote. But given Jack's condition, Kevin hesitated to break the news, fearing further provocation. He remained silent, most frightened by Lucian’s parting words: he wanted Damaris Group to pay.
What exactly did Lucian want? Would it implicate him? Kevin’s heart pounded. He hurried Jack into the elevator, barely registering Jack’s condition.
