Chapter 1740: A Lesson

“By the way, where’s Lucian?” Roxanne scanned the room upon regaining consciousness. His absence worried her; she wondered if she’d truly synthesized the antidote or if Lucian had gone to see Jack instead. The thought unsettled her.

Everyone exchanged glances at the mention of Lucian. Roxanne’s heart sank as she asked Madilyn, “What’s wrong? Did he go—”

Anticipating Roxanne’s concern, Madilyn interrupted, “No. He didn’t go see Jack. He planned to, but we developed the antidote in time. He abandoned the idea and gave it to you instead.”

Roxanne’s question remained unanswered. “Then where is he now?”

“He left after administering the antidote and ensuring it was working. I actually have no idea where he is,” Madilyn admitted, adding quickly, “You can ask the children if you don’t believe me. They can vouch for my truthfulness.”

Roxanne turned to the children. Archie stated, “I was with Aunt Madilyn and Mr. Peregrine the entire time. The antidote is genuine.”

While relieved, Roxanne remained concerned about Lucian’s whereabouts. Where could he be at a time like this?

Just then, she spotted Jonathan in the corner. He explained awkwardly, “Lucian… might have something to do at the office. Cayden just visited him. If you’re worried, I can call him?”

Roxanne accepted his explanation. “It’s fine. He’s probably just busy.” Despite her words, a nagging dread persisted.

As the children chattered, Roxanne engaged them, offering comfort. Seizing the opportunity, Jonathan slipped away. Minutes later, a helicopter landed on the hospital rooftop. Lucian alighted, met by Jonathan.

“What’s the current situation?” Lucian’s concern contrasted sharply with the vicious expression he’d worn toward Jack.

Half an hour prior, he’d been about to leave after confronting Jack when Jonathan called, informing him Peregrine had developed the antidote and was en route to the hospital. Trusting Roxanne’s formula and Peregrine’s skill, Lucian hesitated only briefly before waiting for their arrival.

He waited until Roxanne’s readings improved, her pain subsided, and Peregrine confirmed the antidote’s efficacy before heading to the Damaris Group. His visit there, however, wasn't for the antidote as initially planned; instead, he’d gone to teach Jack a lesson he wouldn't soon forget.
