Chapter 1739: Rare to Find
Now that their mother had regained consciousness, the children burst into tears. โMommy, youโre finally awake! We were so scared,โ they cried. Even Archie sniffled softly, tears welling in his eyes.
Feeling sorry for them, Roxanne weakly comforted them, โIโm so sorry to have frightened you all, but it was your calls that helped me wake up.โ Their cries subsided at her words.
โDid you hear us?โ Benny choked out.
Roxanne grinned. โWhen I heard two crybabies about to cry their lungs out, I pushed myself to wake up. I didn't expect you all to still be crying!โ
She had been drifting in and out of consciousness. Though too weak to physically awaken, her mind was already alert. Hearing Benny and Estellaโs voices had forced her from her coma. Little did she expect their tears upon opening her eyes; it filled her with guilt. โIโm sorry for worrying you all. I was careless.โ Her recklessness had led her into Jackโs trap.
Archie, the first to stop crying, shook his head. โNo. Itโs the bad guyโs fault, not yours, Mommy! Youโre the best doctor in the whole world!โ Benny and Estella, still crying, nodded in agreement.
Though accustomed to their compliments, Roxanne felt embarrassed by Peregrineโs presence. โI got lucky this time.โ
Before the children could refute her, Peregrine interjected, โThe children are right. Youโre an amazing doctor. In fact, itโs not an exaggeration to say youโre the best.โ
Roxanne was surprised. โYouโre too kind, Mr. Lomax. Iโm still quite new to the field. With you and Professor Lambert, how could I be considered the best?โ
Peregrineโs eyes shone with admiration. โNeutralizing the poison so quickly shows youโre a genius. And you wrote down the prescription despite the poison affecting you. Tell me, which other specialist could do that?โ
She's extremely skilled and humble, and she treats everyone kindly. A young woman like this is indeed rare to find!
Peregrineโs praise made Roxanne even more uncomfortable. โI was just lucky enough to guess the antidoteโs components at the crucial moment. Besides, producing it was just as difficult. If not for your and Madilynโs skills, Iโd still be in a coma.โ She used โguessโ to show humility.
Further impressed by her attitude, Peregrine continued, โNo wonder Harveyโs kept you hidden. If everyone knew about you, all the old-timers would be scrambling to recruit you!โ
Roxanne replied diplomatically, โProfessor Lambertโs guidance over the years helped me stay calm at that crucial moment.โ
The smile on Peregrineโs face widened. โYou have incredible talent.โ He turned to Archie. โYour children also impressed me; each one is remarkably intelligent. If he hadnโt helped me find the necessary herbs, I wouldnโt have made it in time.โ
Roxanne beamed with pride, giving her children a loving look.
