Chapter 1797: Running a High Fever

That night at the mansion, Roxanne finished bathing the children and read them bedtime stories before descending to the first floor. Lucian was still working; even Cayden couldn't manage a demanding client from Epea who was peppering him with questions and threatening to cancel their collaboration. Despite Cayden's efforts, the client remained unyielding, forcing Lucian to handle the situation himself. Complicating matters further, the client refused calls, leaving email as the only communication channel.

Roxanne was about to urge Lucian to rest when she noticed his flushed face. He had a fever! Touching his forehead confirmed her suspicion: he was running a high temperature.

โ€œYou have a fever! Stop working. Let me take a look at you,โ€ she said, interrupting his typing.

โ€œReally? No wonder Iโ€™m feeling hot,โ€ Lucian replied, seemingly unconcerned. Roxanne, however, was worried. โ€œLet me check your temperature now. Drink some water first. Why arenโ€™t you sweating?โ€

The thermometer registered 38.5 degrees Celsiusโ€”a high fever. Had he been a child, his condition would have been far more serious.

โ€œEnough. Stop working. You must have caught a cold at the oceanarium. Did you swallow any water when you dived?โ€ Roxanne asked, closing his laptop after he sent the email. She then transitioned into doctor mode, replenishing his fluids and administering antibiotics, anticipating possible bacterial exposure in the pool.

Lucian remained remarkably relaxed, repeatedly assuring her he was fine. Roxanne knew he was a healthy man who exercised regularly, but bacterial infections in individuals like him could be serious. Sure enough, his temperature quickly climbed to 39 degrees Celsius. This frightened Roxanne; his body felt like an oven.

He complied with her instructions, taking medicine and drinking plenty of water, eventually succumbing to exhaustion.

โ€œLet me take you back to the room. Tonight, Iโ€™ll have to monitor your temperature. Itโ€™s too high, and we donโ€™t have any fever medicine at home,โ€ Roxanne said, calling Cayden to purchase some.

This was Lucian's first experience as a patient, being cared for. His high fever induced dizziness and a heavy head.

Cayden soon arrived with the medicine. Roxanne woke Lucian, saying, โ€œWake up and take this. Are your eyes sensitive to the light?โ€

Lucian woke, took the medicine, and nodded weakly.

โ€œOkay. Donโ€™t worry. Go back to sleep. Iโ€™ll be here. Nothing will happen. Your temperature will return to normal soon!โ€ Roxanne reassured him gently, holding his still-hot hand, periodically checking his temperature with her left.

The medicine acted quickly. Within ten minutes, sweat beaded on his forehead, palms, and eventually his entire body. However, Roxanne remained vigilant; the temperature drop was temporary, and she anticipated a resurgence during the night, preparing to stay awake.
