Chapter 1820: Looking Forward
Once Roxanne ended her call, she hung up, denying Jonathan a chance to refuse. Worried Lucian would be dissatisfied, she explained, "I'm content with the plan you devised for me, Lucian. However, if the Queen family bears the losses, the entire scheme will be meaningless."
Lucian chuckled. "Your methods are quite befitting a businesswoman now!"
"Really? That's great! As long as Jonathan controls the prices, he'll help me save a considerable amount. Two hundred million is a fitting price to settle this matter."
Roxanne then turned to boil water and prepare Lucian's favorite coffee. The aroma filled the air. As she poured the coffee, he observed her expression and said, "Accompany me to the middle school tomorrow, Roxanne. I promised Elektra to visit our old principal; he's ill."
She grinned. "Since this is a promise between you and Ms. Lane, I don't think I should join. I won't be jealous; you're only former classmates."
The current Roxanne was far more forthright. She added, "I don't need to be jealous; he's proven his love for me. Besides, I'm sure he mentioned bringing me along when he spoke to Elektra."
"That's not precisely why I'm asking. Did you forget you're the legendary Dr. Jarvis? I want you to come because you might be able to treat him."
"I see. In that case, I'll gladly join you. Pick me up at the research institute; I need to be there early tomorrow morning."
Elektra's alarm blared at nine. Dead drunk the night before, she couldn't recall why it was set. She switched it off and returned to sleep. Then she remembered her promise to Lucian about their old principal. She opened her eyes, ignored her headache, and quickly dressed. Only an hour remained until their ten o'clock meeting. She bathed, donned a lovely outfit, applied makeup to conceal her despondent appearance, and rinsed her mouth repeatedly to remove the smell of alcohol.
Standing before her middle school gates, Elektra reminisced. More than a decade had passed, yet she remembered Lucian and her, always together. She'd ride on his bicycle as they cruised around the school, students whispering about them. Their homeroom teacher would always caution them against young love. It would have been nice, she mused.
A smile touched her face before vanishing. Lucian and Roxanne were stepping out of a Rolls-Royce. He had brought Roxanne. Feeling slightly uncomfortable, she tried to accept the reality.
Moments later, Lucian and Roxanne approached. "Did you wait long, Elektra?" he asked.
Elektra nodded, her gaze on Roxanne. "Our old principal, Mr. Valentine, is very ill, Ms. Jarvis. He's in a great deal of pain. I hope you can treat him!"
Roxanne nodded. Elektra thought, I can see she's still captivated by Lucian, but it's alright. He's an excellent man; it's natural he attracts attention. It's his attitude that matters.
