Chapter 1825: Not Enough
A while later, Jonathan arrived at the Farwell residence. He had come in haste, believing something urgent had occurred. However, Lucian was calmly drinking tea in the living room, even inviting Jonathan to join him. After a brief discussion about medicinal herb supplies, Lucian inquired about Jonathan's health.
โIโm in good health,โ Jonathan replied. โAnd being in the medicinal herb business, weโre quite attentive to our health. Whatโs on your mind, Lucian?โ
Lucianโs interest was evident. โIโm not suggesting thereโs a problem, but youโve been working tirelessly for the family business. Shouldnโt you have a proper checkup?โ
Jonathan readily agreed. โIn that case, I will.โ
โGood. Iโve already scheduled an appointment for you at Roxanneโs hospital,โ Lucian said, relieved that Jonathan didnโt seem suspicious.
Jonathan nodded. โTomorrow is fine. Iโll go in the morning.โ
Lucian nodded, but wondered how Madilyn would handle Jonathanโs straightforward nature.
โBy the way, Lucian,โ Jonathan continued, โIโve noticed some issues with our overseas clients. Complaints are rising, and some are requesting lower prices. Iโll investigate further.โ
Jonathan, a workaholic, immediately returned to business. Lucianโs expression changed subtly. โYou donโt need to. Itโs Shawn; heโs trying to poach our clients. Letโs not alert him to our awareness and let him enjoy his perceived success for now. We have more than enough clients. Since these aren't interested in being market leaders, let's replace them. Weโll wait until they breach the contract.โ
Jonathan nodded, even more impressed by Lucian's foresight. He realized he lacked Lucianโs sharp perception and strategic thinking; Lucian had already identified and formulated a plan to address the problem before Jonathan even fully grasped it. Perhaps this is what defined a strategist.
They continued chatting. Jonathan still felt guilty about his sister's betrayal, but Lucian remained unfazed. When Roxanne came downstairs after putting the children to bed, Jonathan rose and took his leave.
โHow did it go? Did he agree?โ Roxanne asked Lucian.
A smile played on Lucianโs lips. โHeโll have the checkup tomorrow. I think it would be interesting if they ended up in a relationship.โ
โYes, Iโd like to see that too. It would be far better than mineโit wouldn't be bittersweet,โ Roxanne sighed, then glared at Lucian.
Lucian shuddered. Heโd been anticipating the unfolding drama, but it seemed he'd inadvertently shot himself in the foot. He quickly dropped the smile, adopting a solemn expression. Pulling Roxanne close, he said, โOf course, of course. Youโre right. I havenโt treated you well, soโฆโ
โSo what?โ Roxanne frowned, then froze as Lucian knelt.
Lucian produced a black velvet box from his pocket and slowly opened it. His gaze was entirely focused on her.
Roxanne was stunned, her heart pounding.
