Chapter 1829: Seriously Ill
Roxanne awoke unusually early, eager to perform the headmaster's surgery. Morning blood pressure is typically lower, a crucial factor for this particular procedure. Lucian, still asleep, instinctively pulled her close, but she gently extricated herself. Downstairs, she was greeted by a display of flowers and roses; a glance at her wedding ring brought a peaceful smile. Married life had been blissfully uneventful.
Madilyn arrived to assist with the surgery. Roxanne urged her to eat breakfast, during which Madilyn recounted the joys of having a kitchen helper since moving into her mansion. They discussed the headmaster's complex condition en route to the hospital. The surgery, a challenging undertaking, lasted from seven to nine-thirty. Both Roxanne and Madilyn remained intensely focused.
Emerging from the operating room, they delivered good news to the headmaster's daughter, who was overcome with gratitude and attempted to kneel in thanks. Roxanne prevented this, offering care advice instead. Saying goodbye to Madilyn, Roxanne proceeded to the research institute.
Downstairs, she encountered Jonathan. "Hi, Roxanne! I'm here for a health checkup," he said cheerfully, oblivious to the subtle, knowing smile playing on her lips.
At the registration desk, Jonathan reviewed his basic checkup plan: a CT scan or ultrasound of his heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys; an electrocardiogram; and a full blood report. However, Madilyn had preemptively added tests. The receptionist advised Jonathan to include gastroscopy and colonoscopy, explaining their long-term health benefits. He readily agreed.
Madilyn, observing Jonathan's test list, smirked. She'd handle the gastroscopy; the colonoscopy, however, she would delegate. She changed into her scrubs, confident in her anonymity.
Because Jonathan had fasted, the gastroscopy proceeded first. Madilyn quickly dismissed the attending physician. The procedure proved excruciating for Jonathan, resulting in repeated vomiting. Though she offered comfort through an assistant, Madilyn's expression grew grave as she discovered Jonathan had severe gastritis. The realization silenced her playful teasing, and she urgently reviewed the scans. The severity alarmed herโuntreated, it could lead to stomach cancer. She immediately summoned a gastroenterologist for a second opinion.
