Chapter 1834: Am Terrible At This

Returning to the villa that evening, Roxanne again stressed to Archie and Benny the importance of discernment and caution when assisting others online. She warned them against being exploited by unscrupulous individuals, such as those who might hire them to hack websites or solicit money under the guise of help.

โ€œEssie may not understand, but you two must. You have to help her be careful! Don't let your kindness lead to wrongdoing,โ€ Roxanne emphasized.

The two boys nodded, promising vigilance. Estella, meanwhile, remained immersed in her simple joy of helping others. A girl had even given her a beautiful hair clip, which she treasured.

Soon, Elias and Sonya arrived by car. Elias began teaching Archie and Benny chessโ€”a familiar activity for themโ€”and soon the three were engrossed in a challenging game. Sonya, meanwhile, started preparing soup for the children.

Lucian silently went upstairs to his work in the study. Roxanne, after helping Jonathan with his medication, came downstairs to check on everyone.

A cry from the kitchen startled her. She found Sonya, a pained expression on her face, her right palm red and blistered, submerged in a basin of water.

Sonya rarely cooked and was unaccustomed to handling hot items. She'd spilled some bubbling soup on her hand without realizing it. The pain was intense, though she bravely held back tears.

โ€œMrs. Farwell, youโ€™re burned! You canโ€™t just soak it in water! Hurry!โ€

Roxanne immediately took Sonya's hand, removing it from the basin and placing it under running cold water.

โ€œThe first step for a burn is fifteen minutes of cold running water. Soaking it isn't enough; blisters will form,โ€ Roxanne explained, her tone professional. Sonya felt awkward under Roxanne's touch.

โ€œIโ€™m terrible at even this simple task. Iโ€™m so sorry, Roxanne,โ€ Sonya apologized.

โ€œItโ€™s okay, Mrs. Farwell. Cooking soup can be left to the cook. You donโ€™t have to do it yourself.โ€ Roxanne knew she was making amends for past neglect of Archie and Benny.

โ€œI just wanted Archie and Benny to taste my soup. I didn't expect to be so clumsy!โ€ Sonyaโ€™s initial awkwardness faded as she spoke to Roxanne. A strange feeling stirred in her heart.

โ€œOkay, keep rinsing. Iโ€™ll get some ointment upstairs. The burn isn't severe,โ€ Roxanne instructed, hurrying upstairs.

Elias, having overheard, came to check on his wife.

โ€œWhy are you so careless?โ€ he scolded, though worry and anxiety etched his brow and filled his eyes.

The children, too, had heard the commotion and expressed concern for Sonya.

โ€œGrandma, are you okay? We won't drink soup next time so you won't get burned,โ€ one child said.

โ€œGrandma, does it hurt a lot? You can ask for help! Mommy said to be careful in the kitchen,โ€ another added.

Sonya's furrowed brow relaxed as she listened to their concern.

โ€œIโ€™m fine, donโ€™t worry. Your mommy will help me, and Iโ€™ll be okay soon,โ€ she reassured them, feeling a wave of peace and warmth. She looked at her husband, a faint smile playing on her lips.
