Chapter 1860: Success
All heart surgeries involving opening the patient's back were extremely risky. An aorta surgery to remove such a tiny tumor presented a further challenge; the surgeons questioned their capacity for the precision and fortitude required. When Roxanne arrived in the operating room and explained the plan, grim faces met her.
โDr. Jarvis, is this even possible? In such cases, we usually recommend conservative treatment,โ one doctor stated.
โExactly. This is incredibly difficult. What if something goes wrong? Dr. Jarvis, this is Dr. Xander's mother. The pressure on you must be immense. Please reconsider!โ another added.
โIt will be challenging, even with support. However, few doctors in our country possess the necessary skills for this type of surgery,โ a third doctor commented.
Roxanne remained unmoved by their discussion. Her intense gaze softened as she found her inner peace. A clear mind and absolute concentration were paramount. Instead of addressing their doubts directly, she offered a reassuring smile. โDonโt worry, everyone. Remember, I'm Dr. Jarvis, and I'm also proficient in ancient medicine!โ She briefly displayed her needle before concealing it again, projecting an air of expert confidence. This wasn't an act; she simply aimed to ease their tension and prevent mistakes.
โBring the patient in,โ she instructed the nurse. โEveryone, prepare for surgery. Focus solely on doing your best!โ
The operating room sprang into action. Lights blazed, and doctors donned their scrubs. Before entering, Roxanne glanced down the corridor; Madilyn was absent, likely overwhelmed by the reality of the situation.
The surgery commenced. Two hours passed. Finally, unable to bear the suspense, Madilyn rushed from the director's office. Lucian, startled by her sudden movement, quickly caught up. He intercepted her at the operating room door.
โDonโt worry, Mr. Farwell. I wonโt be irrational. I just want to be near while I wait for good news from Roxanne. My mother will be alright, right?โ Madilyn asked anxiously.
Lucian, at a loss for words, nodded and watched her settle into a chair. She clasped her hands, silently praying. Her anxiety and helplessness were palpable. Lucian could faintly hear the growing commotion from within.
Chaos erupted.
โHer blood vessels ruptured! We canโt stop the bleeding!โ
โDr. Jarvis, what do we do?โ
โHemostat! Sheโs bleeding profusely! This will cause an infection!โ
Sweat beaded on Roxanneโs brow, despite her assistant having recently wiped it. Amidst the panic, she remained calm, swiftly applying the hemostat and retrieving her needle.
Twenty minutes later, the doctors stared, dumbfounded. Roxanne had stemmed the bleeding, removed the tumor, and was now repairing the blood vessels. As blood surged back into Lorraineโs heart, its beat strengthened and accelerated.
Beneath her mask, Roxanneโs lips curved into a faint smile. Only then did exhaustion overwhelm her. After cleaning the blood, she directed the other doctors to complete the final stitches.
The surgery was a success.
