Back at the mansion, Lysa had been waiting for them to return for dinner for quite some time. When she saw everyone entering, she hurried to them and asked, "What happened? Why is everyone home so late?"
Roxanne forced a smile and answered, "It's nothing. I had to work overtime. Please babysit the kids. I'm a little tired, so I think I'll go to bed now."
Seeing how pale and tired Roxanne looked, Lysa readily agreed to babysit. Roxanne cooed her children briefly before retiring to her room.
The next morning, after Lysa finished making breakfast, Roxanne was still asleep. The children, however, were already downstairs, dressed.
"You boys eat. I'll go check on your mother," Lysa said, worried by Roxanne's appearance the previous night.
The children stopped her. "There's no need. Mommy is always tired after surgery. Let her sleep. Wake her only if she's still asleep this afternoon."
Lysa hesitated but agreed. After ensuring the boys ate breakfast, she took them to kindergarten. It was late when she returned home, but Roxanne was still sleeping. Lysa decided not to disturb her, instead preparing oatmeal for Roxanne to eat upon waking.
Roxanne awoke, saw the time (eleven o'clock), and realized the children were late. She was about to get out of bed when she remembered hiring a housekeeper. The children were likely already at school. Strangely, even after relaxing, Roxanne felt drained. She rested before a knock came at her door.
"Ms. Jarvis, are you up?" Lysa asked. She had waited all morning and checked on Roxanne as soon as the afternoon arrived.
"Yeah, I'm up. I'll be right out," Roxanne replied, only realizing her voice was hoarse afterward. "Do I have a fever?" she wondered, but didn't pay much attention. She freshened up and went downstairs for food, but her fatigue was evident as she walked.
"Ms. Jarvis, why is your face so red?" Lysa asked, surprised, as she served Roxanne the oatmeal.
Roxanne frowned. "I think I might have a fever. Please find some medicine for me."
Lysa quickly found medicine and gave it to Roxanne. Despite having no appetite, Roxanne ate a little before returning to bed.
Roxanne hadn't expected to fall ill so easily. "I only performed one surgery! I can't believe this is enough to make me sick. When did I become so weak?" she thought. Her fever made her mind fuzzy, and she fell asleep.
That night, seeing Roxanne still asleep, Lysa assumed she hadn't recovered. She went to pick up the boys from kindergarten and found Estella there. Disappointment flickered across Estella's face when she saw Lysa.
Archie and Benny, knowing Estella missed their mother and might refuse to go home as she had the day before, asked, "Where's Mommy?"
Lysa, worried about Roxanne being alone, frowned. "Ms. Jarvis is sick and resting at home. Let's hurry back."
The boys were anxious. They'd assumed their mother would recover quickly, as usual, and hadn't expected her illness.
