Chapter 1893: Incomparable
โYour plan had many flaws. It was foolish of Christina to use Flora Verba Groupโs name to recruit temporary workers!โ
Lucianโs eyes were as cold as glaciers, yet fear gnawed at him. The scheme, though riddled with loopholes, prioritized speed. If the hundred thousand sets of goods reached the market, investigating the culprit would be pointless. The companyโs reputation would be irreparably damaged, and no amount of explanation could restore trust. Roxanne, as technical director, would be implicated and her reputation sullied.
โI anticipated this day,โ Elektra said, her tears finally ceasing. Despair was her deepest sorrow. She felt lost, unsure how to face Lucian, Roxanne, her parentsโanyone. A strange calm settled over her. She gazed longingly at Lucian, wanting to memorize his face. โLucian, please donโt involve my parents or the Lane family. I will bear all consequences.โ
Lucian sensed a shift in her tone. He turned to see her sprinting from the room. A terrifying suspicion seized him, and he gave chase. He underestimated her resolve. She felt overwhelmed, believing sheโd lost Lucianโs good opinion. He must hate her, she thought bitterly. Only one thought remained: escape this unbearable world.
She rushed into the elevator, heading for the top floor.
โElektra, stop!โ Lucian pursued, moving with incredible speed. But she reached the elevator just as the doors opened. He watched helplessly as it ascended, frantically pressing the button for another elevator.
He reached the rooftop less than fifteen seconds after her. She stood at the railing, poised to fall three hundred meters. Yet, a part of her still yearned for him, hoping he would follow. Relief washed over her as she saw him, and she offered a faint smile.
โDonโt come closer, Lucian! I wronged you and Roxanne. Sheโs perfect; I canโt compare.โ
โGet down from there! Is this how you shoulder responsibility? I wonโt let you go to jail, but you must face your mistakes. This is just running away! Do you think death erases everything?โ
Lucian approached slowly, his gaze fixed on her, his anger barely contained. He searched for calming words, but his fury burned.
As he neared, she shook her head, offering a miserable smile. โLucian, I understand. But I finally understand your feelings for me. Sadly, I can no longer be your sister. I want to end it this way. The truth is, I never wanted to be your sister. Iโve always loved you. Christina threatened me, but I still had a choice. I was stubborn and unrepentant.โ
Lucian froze, a conflicted expression on his face. Heโd sensed her feelings, but Roxanne had captured his heart long ago, even before their marriage.
