Chapter 1892: The Unexpected Guest
Elektra was dumbfounded. Never before had she seen Lucian express his anger so directly. For years, heโd been a man of composure, even during the stressful takeover of Farwell Group.
Overwhelming sadness washed over Elektra, making it difficult to breathe. Tears sheโd been holding back streamed down her cheeks. Lucian had always been a mentor to her, defending her from school bullies, showering her with thoughtful gifts, even presenting her with a sports car for her coming-of-age ceremony. Sheโd taken it all for granted, attributing his kindness to their families' relationship. Now, she realized heโd truly valued her, seeing her as more than a friend, even if not romantically; a younger sister.
Suddenly, Elektra felt weak, her body going limp. She was on the verge of collapsing when Lucian grabbed her hand, his voice tight with fury. โYou will face the consequences! Youโre not getting away with this!โ
He pulled her to the couch, where she slumped. The iciness in his gaze remained. Roxanne was the love of his life, and he would not forgive anyone who harmed her.
โI discovered your actions the moment you began tampering with the products,โ Lucian revealed. โIt was simple, really. The new factory wasn't operational, but the transportation company used was under Queen Group's control. A small company, yes, but we controlled the logistics.โ
Two trucks had been inexplicably delayed. Concerned about Flora Verba Group's products, Jonathan had questioned the drivers. His suspicions aroused, he discussed the matter with Lucian before intercepting the trucks, recalling all the products. That was the very day Christina and Elektra believed their plan had succeededโunaware Lucian was already investigating.
The speed of their actions was alarming; ten thousand products tainted within three or four days. The identical packaging made identification impossible, so Lucian ordered the interception of all trucks from the new factory, storing the contaminated products in a single warehouse.
To protect Roxanne, he told her he intended to export the products, gaining her permission. Then, he instructed Leroy and other factory managers to use temporary facilities to produce ten thousand replacements.
Lucian's greatest fear was Roxanne's betrayal by those close to her. Heโd investigated everyone at the research institute, never suspecting Elektra's collusion with Christina.
The previous night, Lucian had located Christina's hotel and sent Cayden with bodyguards to apprehend her. However, Christina's own security detail sensed trouble and whisked her away. In her haste, she left her phone behind. The call log revealed an unfamiliar numberโElektra's newly registered line.
Lucian initially planned to call the number immediately, but Elektra called him that morning. He ignored her calls to avoid suspicion, then waited four hours at the hotel. He knew Christina's accomplice would arrive, anxious about their failed scheme.
Finally, the doorbell rang. To his dismay, it was the last person he expected to see.
