Chapter 1910: A Personal Matter

โ€œGrant, regardless of the Farwellsโ€™ response, we must request betrothal money. We returned their previous contribution; we canโ€™t be so generous this time!โ€ Winnie urged her husband, mentally calculating an appropriate sum. A modest amount would suffice; gifts could also include property or valuable items.

Grant nodded. โ€œOf course. Roxanneโ€™s mother died young, and I raised her with difficulty. How can I let her marry into the Farwells without something in return?โ€

โ€œThirty millionโ€”too much?โ€ Winnieโ€™s eyes gleamed with avarice.

โ€œNot at all. Iโ€™m curious what the Farwells offer. The more, the better,โ€ Grant mused, already making plans.

They decided to speak with Roxanne first, only to discover they lacked her number. Resourceful, Winnie found Flora Verba Groupโ€™s website and called.

The customer service representative, assuming a product inquiry, prepared to log a complaint. Winnie finally revealed their identities: โ€œWe are Ms. Jarvisโ€™ parents; weโ€™re new in town and need her number.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m afraid I cannot assist you. Please verify your information and call back.โ€

Infuriated, Winnie cursed. Grant then suggested contacting the hotel receptionist to reach Sonya.

Meanwhile, at the Farwell residence, Sonya received the receptionistโ€™s call about Grantโ€™s request to meet with her and Elias.

โ€œElias, Roxanne said to ignore them, but is that too ungracious? Refusing our in-laws could damage the Farwell reputation,โ€ Sonya worried, fearing Roxanneโ€™s later displeasure.

Elias considered. Ignoring them might make the Farwells seem petty; family dignity demanded some respect. He decided to consult Lucian.

Lucian relayed Roxanneโ€™s wish to ignore them. However, Roxanne realized it was inappropriate to dictate the Farwellsโ€™ actions. She should handle this herself. She would go to the hotel.

โ€œIโ€™ll go with you,โ€ Lucian said, fetching a jacket and helping her on with it.

En route, he noticed her displeasure. โ€œDarling, donโ€™t be angry. Just clarify things. Itโ€™s not worth the emotional investment.โ€

Roxanne smiled, comforted by his touch, and tried to compose herself.
