Chapter 19: Advise Him

As James recounted the events, Sonya and Roxanne, while not as shocked as before, felt deep unease for his family. Alendor was a chaotic place, rife with unforeseen dangers. Due to the country's safety concerns, citizens were permitted to carry firearms. Thus, James' possession of a firearm was justifiable; it was a means of self-protection against the ferocious wild animals of the grasslands, especially in emergencies. He never anticipated needing to take a life in self-defense.

The incident immediately overwhelmed Yennefer, triggering hysteria and incoherent speech. Local authorities apprehended the assailants, and Yennefer was rushed to the hospital. However, the hospital lacked even basic hygiene standards, much less adequate mental health facilities. Fortunately, James, a psychologist, used hypnosis to calm Yennefer, allowing his father, Jones, to swiftly remove her from Alendor.

โ€œAfter Motherโ€™s return, I invited several leading psychological experts to the house. Treatment lasted over two weeks. Meanwhile, I remained in Alendor, only returning home afterward. Fearing my mother might be triggered by seeing me, I lied to Lucian and didn't go straight home.โ€

Lucianโ€™s anger flared. He glared coldly at James. โ€œHow could you conceal such a serious incident? Youโ€™re incredibly foolish!โ€

James, apologetic, remained silent. Lucian, however, wasn't truly blaming him. He turned to Roxanne.

โ€œI understand. Youโ€™re hesitant to approach Mrs. Lann given the situation. Would you consider letting me try instead?โ€

Roxanne sought James' confirmation, who nodded hopefully.

โ€œNo problem. Lucian and I will go to your house now. Don't worry. With so many experts there, it shouldn't be difficult,โ€ Roxanne reassured, readily agreeing to help.

Lucian, approaching James, patted his shoulder. โ€œYou learned that from Jonathan, didn't you? I'll forgive you this time, but don't let it happen again,โ€ he warned gravely.

James offered a wry smile. โ€œUnderstood.โ€

They immediately departed for James' house. James drove, and within half an hour, they arrived at the Lann mansion. He chose not to enter with them. โ€œI don't think it's wise for me to appear now. I'm relying on you both.โ€

The couple offered reassuring glances and entered the mansion. Jones, having been informed, waited by the door. He greeted them immediately.

โ€œLucian, is this Roxanne?โ€ Jones asked, apologizing, โ€œIโ€™m so sorry I couldn't attend your wedding.โ€

โ€œPlease donโ€™t worry, Mr. Lann. There were pressing family matters,โ€ Roxanne replied, having learned to treat those closely associated with the Farwell family with warmth.

Noticing Jones' gaze towards the car, Lucian explained, โ€œJames won't be coming in. He's worried about upsetting Mrs. Lann. But heโ€™s fine.โ€

Jones' worry eased. He nodded. โ€œLucian, you're very considerate. Iโ€™m concerned my son is too hard on himself. It was all unforeseen. Please help me advise him.โ€
