Chapter 1920: Go Ahead and Try
Upon entering the hall, they were greeted by a lively discussion among numerous psychologists. Robert Zucker, a renowned psychologist and James's mentor, led the group. Roxanne had heard her mentor mention Robert's extensive researchโspanning over thirty years and resulting in numerous publications, including a seminal text on criminal psychology used by law enforcement. Robert had brought several students, using Yennefer's case as a teaching opportunity.
Other prominent doctors were present, but Robert, the central figure, dominated the discussions. Upon seeing Lucian and Roxanne, he quieted the group and approached Lucian.
"Mr. Farwell, hello. Are you here to visit the patient?"
Lucian, a recognizable figure in the media, responded with a handshake. "Hello, Professor Zucker. It's an honor. We're relieved to have such a renowned doctor treating Mrs. Lann."
Robert, pleased by the compliment, smiled and nodded before greeting Roxanne. "Mrs. Farwell, hello!" Roxanne acknowledged him.
Lucian then added, "Professor Zucker, my wife is also a physician. She's here to see if she can assist Mrs. Lann."
Robert replied politely, "I've heard of Dr. Jarvis's reputation, but I didn't expect her to be so young." His tone shifted. "However, Mrs. Lann's condition is psychological. I fear Dr. Jarvis's expertise in pathology may be of limited use."
Roxanne sensed his disdain. Lucian, noticing this, countered smoothly, "That's not necessarily true. Some psychological conditions respond to pathological methods. We're exploring every avenue."
Robert grudgingly conceded, "Well, it's worth a try."
Jones, sensing the tension, quickly introduced Lucian and Roxanne to other psychologists before leading them to Yennefer.
After their departure, Robert's expression hardened. He harbored a grudge against Harvey Lambert, Roxanne's mentor, and consequently, dismissed her abilities. Roxanne remained unaware of this.
They found Yennefer asleep, her appearance haggard, her arms bearing disturbing scratches. The room was in disarray. Jones, looking at his wife's pale face, turned to Roxanne. "Roxanne, your skills in traditional medicine, especially acupuncture, are exceptional. James suggested you. Please, do your best."
Roxanne replied calmly, "I'll try. We'll need to wait for Mrs. Lann's symptoms to manifest before assessing the treatment's efficacy." Maintaining composure was paramount for a physician.
