Chapter 1931: Why Did You Harm Me?
โLet me, Mr. Lann,โ Roxanne offered. Lucian reacted swiftly, restraining Jones. She turned the doorknob, a silver needle clutched in her hand.
James spoke. โLucian, Roxanne, please don't enter. I must face this alone. I'm going to try to reach her!โ
Roxanne paused, turning to Lucian. Jones, hearing this, became anxious. โNo! We can't leave him alone. James! Stop! Don't torture your mother anymore.โ
โCalm down, Mr. Lann,โ Lucian instructed coldly.
Jones, though still anxious, regained some composure. โLucian, what should we do? We can't let her act like Sheba for long. That's what Roxanne said, isn't it?โ
โYes. I know. But James is with her now. He won't hurt his mother! I'm sure he feels as you do. Do you understand, Mr. Lann?โ
Mrs. Lann wouldn't break this cycle if left unchecked. While she had improved after their visit to the ancient sorcerer in Alendor, he was deceased. Where could they find another like him?
Lucian considered the consequences before deciding to support James. Roxanne immediately grasped his meaning.
She comforted Jones, โMr. Lann, I understand Jamesโs predicament. Let him try to reconcile the conflicting personalities within Mrs. Lann. It might work! Don't worry. I'll assist if needed.โ
Though unsure of James's success, Roxanne reassured Jones to calm him. It worked.
โJames, if anything is amiss, let us know!โ Lucian called through the study door.
Inside, James looked at Yennefer and nodded. No, it wasn't his mother; it was Aunt Sheba, unable to accept her sister's deathโa personality his mother had created.
โPlease sit, Aunt Sheba. We need to talk.โ James was surprised by his own calmness. Previously, Yenneferโs viciousness would have shattered him, but now, things were different. He acknowledged Sheba's presence and the need for conversation.
โTalk? You killed me, you cruel man! I fell into the well because of you! I'm your mother's twin! How could you?โ Yennefer screamed.
Her accusations raged, but James remained unafraid. He looked at her calmly.
โAunt Sheba, it was an accident. I never intended to harm you. Please, sit,โ James said calmly.
Sheba glared, gritting her teeth. โWhy? Why did you kill me? I cared for you! I gave you everything! I loved you!โ
Sadness filled James's eyes. โYes, Aunt Sheba, you're right. But you changed. You became jealous of my mother. You wanted to replace her, didn't you?โ
James took control, demanding an explanation from Sheba.
