After breakfast, Roxanne decided the time was still early enough to make it to the research institute.
โMy fever has subsided, Lysa,โ she said. โCould you please arrange my discharge? I need to get some work done.โ Her work at the research institute had been impacted by her recent surgery for Larry, and she wanted to avoid a backlog.
Lysa hesitated. โMs. Jarvis, I think you should stay and observe your condition for another day. I know how busy youโve been recently. You didnโt fall ill yesterday for no reason; it was due to fatigue! Now that your temperature is down, you canโt wait to get back to work. Iโm really afraid your body canโt handle it and youโll collapse again.โ
Though Lysa hadnโt been working for Roxanne long, sheโd seen how the woman overworked herself. One would assume Roxanne had superpowers if she hadnโt fallen ill; she never complained about fatigue or her hectic schedule of juggling career and children.
The more time Lysa spent with the family, the more she felt sorry for the single mother of two. She treated Roxanne like her own daughter, and it broke her heart to see her sick.
โItโs okay,โ Roxanne said, removing the blanket and insisting on getting out of bed. โIโm used to it. Yesterday was just a minor setback.โ
The man standing nearby, Lucian, looked grim. He recalled her impressive resume. How had she achieved so much in six years? What kind of life had she led abroad? What sacrifices had she made?
Lysa remained concerned. She hadnโt been present for the doctorโs diagnosis and was unsure of Roxanneโs condition. While Lysa debated, Roxanne got out of bed. Fretting, Lysa turned to Lucian with a pleading look, hoping he could persuade Roxanne to stay. She felt Roxanne would listen to him.
Lucian frowned, strode to the bed, and stared at Roxanne. โThe doctor said you must have a check-up before discharge.โ He glanced at Lysa. โPlease get the doctor.โ
Lysa sighed in relief and went to fetch the doctor.
Roxanneโs brow furrowed. โThis is unnecessary. I know my body.โ As a doctor herself, she was confident sheโd recovered from the fever and could be discharged.
Lucian retorted, โIf you had, why did you collapse at home and become too weak to get out of bed?โ
Roxanne was speechless.
Archie and Benny chimed in, โMommy, letโs get the doctor to check you.โ
Roxanne, unable to bear their anxiety, relented.
Lysa soon returned with the doctor. After examining Roxanne, the doctor addressed Lucian. โThereโs nothing wrong. She can be discharged, but she must prioritize rest and her health. Remember, health is wealth.โ
Lucian nodded and looked at Roxanne. Feeling guilty, she lowered her eyes. โThank you, doctor,โ she murmured. โIโll take note of that.โ
The doctor offered a few more standard instructions and left. Reassured, Lysa proceeded with the discharge paperwork.
