Chapter 1949: Difficult for Any Man to Refuse
Lucian and Roxanne brought Archie, Benny, and Estella to the hot spring resort. They all enjoyed the hot springs before returning to the manor, chatting and laughing.
Archie and Benny immediately challenged Elias to a chess match. Elias hastily declined, claiming prior commitments, prompting a snicker from Sonya.
"Your grandpa can't win anymore," she teased. "After losing nine games in a row last time, he's lost his confidence!" Elias glared at her, furious.
Estella then urged Sonya to join her upstairs in her exclusive design studio, the source of all Snuggly's clothing designs. Archie and Benny, thwarted in their chess ambitions, settled for a game of checkers upstairs.
Meanwhile, Roxanne prepared a fruit platter in the kitchen and called Lucian to join her. After some discussion, the couple told Elias about Grant's request to see the triplets.
"I have no objections," Elias said. "He's still their grandfather and deserves to see them. Roxanne, you can handle the arrangements." He assured them Sonya wouldn't object.
Roxanne and Lucian decided to arrange a meeting the following day, coinciding with the children's early dismissal for field day. Grant's wish would be granted, but future contact would be minimized. He would have to face the consequences of his past actions.
Later, after showering, Roxanne was scooped up by Lucian in a bridal carry. He rained kisses upon her.
"Why the rush?" she teased, sensing his purpose.
Lucian paused, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Darling, don't you think the triplets are too mature? Incredibly talented and independent. I haven't really experienced fatherhood properly."
"So?" Roxanne asked, a sweet smile playing on her lips.
"Naturally, we have another baby," Lucian declared. "It will be tough on you, but I'll obey you completely. I'll even get a caregiver certification to help during your pregnancy!" Roxanne's gratification was evident. She responded with equal passion. The night was filled with their love.
Coralie was discharged from the hospital after only a day. Initially, she considered calling Jonathan, but her brother's harsh words and Madilyn's unusual behavior toward him โ coupled with their closeness โ gave her pause. Confident in her appeal, she initially believed some distance would make him miss her. But she now feared it had given another woman an opportunity. Competition, however, spurred her on.
She finally decided to call Jonathan. After several rings, he answered, his voice distant. "Ms. Crawford? I'm finalizing your car accident compensation. Can you provide your account number?"
"Jonathan, my brother was distraught. He's left Horington. I'm alone in the hospital. Can you pick me up?" Her voice, fragile and feminine, made it difficult for any man to refuse.
